Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 5428 ):
Q3: What is the meaning of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever sees me in a dream will see me in his wakefulnessمن رآني في المنام فسيراني في اليقظة
Sahih al-Bukhari 6993
?

A: The meaning of the hadith in this narration is: whoever sees the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a dream in the form he had in this world will see the interpretation of his dream and the fulfillment of the news it indicated in his worldly life; because seeing him in that form is true; as indicated by the statement at the end of the hadith:
For indeed the Shaitan can not resemble me.فإن الشيطان لا يتمثل بي
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2276Sahih (Darussalam)
. See the interpretation of this hadith in [Fath al-Bari] by Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on him) in the book of Ta’bir, and it is not intended that he sees the person of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in his waking state. Al-Bukhari narrated the hadith in the book of Ta’bir, from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the wording:
Whoever saw me (in a dream) while sleeping then he has indeed seen me. For indeed the Shaitan can not resemble me.من رآني في المنام فقد رآني، فإن الشيطان لا يتمثل بي
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2276Sahih (Darussalam)
... the hadith, and its meaning is: whoever sees the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the form he had in this world, his dream is true, for Satan does not take on his form. And Muslim narrated this hadith in his Sahih
in the wording:
Whoever sees me in a dream will see me in his wakefulnessمن رآني في المنام فسيراني، أو فكأنما رآني
Sahih al-Bukhari 6993
with uncertainty, and he did not mention the word “waking life,” and its meaning is: the truth of the dream and that its interpretation will be realized. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
