The disbelief of one who apostatizes from Islam and the prohibition of seeking forgiveness for him if he dies in that state

Machine translationRead the Arabic original

The first question of Fatwa No. ( 10615 ):

Q1: A man was a Muslim, then he apostatized from Islam and died in that state. Can we say that he is a disbeliever? What is the ruling regarding an apostate in Islam? And can we seek forgiveness from Allah for him, for example: “O Allah, forgive his sin”?
A1: One who was a Muslim and then apostatized from Islam is a disbeliever. He is given three days to repent; if he repents, well and good, otherwise he is killed. It is not permissible to seek forgiveness for him if he dies in a state of apostasy;
for the saying of Allah the Exalted:
It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of Hellfire.
[At-Tawbah 9:113]
. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
