Q2: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Ibn Hibban 63:91 And for this reason, Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said after the thirty years had passed: "I am the first of the kings," from [the letter of Abu Zayd al-Qayrawani] , vol. 1, p. 96. What is the meaning of this hadith?
A2: This hadith was narrated by Imam Ahmad in [Al-Musnad], al-Hakim in [Al-Mustadrak], Abu Ya'la in [Al-Musnad], Ibn Hibban in [His Sahih], and al-Tirmidhi in [Al-Sunan]. The meaning of this hadith was explained by
al-Hafiz in [Al-Fath], where he said: “He meant by the khilafah the khilafah of the prophethood. As for Mu'awiyah and those after him, they followed the way of kings, even if they called themselves caliphs.” And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
