The ruling on leaving the mosque if the Tijaniyyah have taken control of it

Machine translationRead the Arabic original

Fatwa number ( 2931 ):

Q: A righteous group in a populated village has a large congregational mosque where all five daily prayers are performed in congregation—it is the only mosque in the village. The mosque can accommodate the worshippers and remains empty, needing more people, while the villagers are not consistent in attending congregational prayer except for a few righteous individuals. This small group split from the village, objecting to innovations, disagreements, and the villagers' negligence in performing their religious rites properly and correctly. It is known that the villagers belong to the Tijaniyyah order. This small group decided not to pray behind the village imam, who lacks the qualification to lead prayer due to his defective Tijani beliefs, which he encourages. He attends sessions of praise of the Prophet that contain the flattery and shirk (associating partners with Allah) that you know. This led them to build a new mosque not far from the first one, where they began teaching tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and instructing their followers in the correct creed, warning them against innovations and superstitions. Several young men from their side turned to them, causing discord among their families. The villagers ruled that this group is not of the religion, saying that the new mosque is a mosque of harm. It is known that this group has a learned Shaykh who studied at al-Zaytunah and is well-versed in Maliki jurisprudence. What is the ruling on this?
The mosque that was newly built? Does their claim that it is a mosque of harm apply to it? What is the ruling on objecting to the people of the Tijani order? What is their degree in terms of faith? Is it permissible for a student of knowledge who wants to reform this village to try to reform these deviant Tijanis in their mosque and stay away from the other group that follows the truth, because of the fitnah (trial) they are causing with the new mosque? Or should he remain with the small group of truth and distance himself from the others?

A: First: If the situation is as described, that the only large mosque in the village has been taken over by the Tijaniyyah and they have declared their innovations and superstitions therein, and a group of the people of truth objected to them but they did not accept, so they withdrew from them and built a mosque to perform the prayers in it, etc., then the mosque they built is not a mosque of harm. Second: Objecting to the innovations and superstitions of the people of the Tijani order is obligatory upon the scholars of the people of the Sunnah and the community. As for the degree of the people of the Tijani order and the ruling on them due to the innovations and superstitions they have introduced, the Permanent Committee has prepared a written response regarding their innovations. Third: Whoever has knowledge and hopes that they will accept advice should mix with them
and advise them, hoping that they will accept it from him and cease their innovations or reduce them. Otherwise, he must avoid them. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
