The Manner of 'Umrah.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We return now to mention how Hajj is performed? Hajj is a type of jihad in the path of Allah, a type of jihad in the path of Allah, as evidenced by the fact that the Mother of the Believers, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), said: . Therefore, it involves physical exertion and financial spending, just like jihad. It is a type of jihad in the path of Allah. Some scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) derived this from the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He: [Al-Baqarah 2:195-196]. He mentioned Hajj after mentioning spending in the path of Allah. This is an indication that Hajj is a type of jihad in the path of Allah. But we must know the manner of Hajj so that we perform this manner as it came from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). We begin:
First: A person ties his saddle from his country to Makkah. He should observe the etiquettes of travel. He should be of a generous disposition and broad-minded. He should have sufficient provisions that are enough for him and more. - Sit down, my son - He should have sufficient provisions that are enough for him and more, because he does not know what may occur to him on the road. He may need something, or his companion may need something, so the provisions should be with him. Let him be a servant to his brothers in travel, serving them. He said: - I think it was Nafi', the freed slave of Ibn 'Umar - :. Be a servant to your companions, for that is among the beauties of character. Therefore, some of them said: Travel is called travel because it reveals the characters of men. It clarifies and displays them, until 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) witnessed a man testifying before him, praising a man by saying: He is a just man, and there is nothing wrong with him. 'Umar said to him: . And so, when you travel with a person, his character becomes clear to you in ways that do not become clear during residence. When you reach the miqat, enter the state of ihram. Do not pass the miqat while intending Hajj and 'Umrah unless you are in ihram. Take a ghusl as you would for janabah. Then perfume your body with perfume, on the head and on the beard. Then put on the ihram. The ihram is an izar and a rida for men. Women do not have specific clothes. Let the woman wear what she wishes, except that she does not wear clothes that attract the attention of men to her. Then she recites the talbiyah, saying: Labbaik Allahumma 'Umrah. And she walks briskly, continuing to recite the talbiyah. And she raises her voice with the talbiyah if she is a man. As for the woman, she does not raise her voice until she reaches Makkah. When you reach Makkah, you enter the Sacred Mosque and say upon entering it what you say upon entering any mosque. What do we say in the mosques upon entering the mosques? Bismillah, and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, forgive my sins and open for me the gates of Your mercy. Then you head to the Black Stone to touch it, meaning: wipe it. And you say: Bismillah, and Allahu Akbar. O Allah, in faith in You, and belief in Your Book, and fulfillment of Your covenant, and following the Sunnah of Your Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). And if it is easy to kiss it while touching it, that is good. And if it is not easy to touch it or kiss it, pointing with the right hand is sufficient, pointing like this! Not as we see the common people extending both their hands. No. One hand, the right hand. Then you depart from the Stone to make the Ka'bah on your left and circle until you reach the Stone. And when you pass the Yemeni Corner, which is the corner next to the Stone, touch it, meaning: wipe it, without saying takbir. If you cannot do so, do not point to it, because that - meaning the takbir when touching the Yemeni Corner, and pointing to it when touching it is difficult - did not come from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And acts of worship are based on restriction. And say between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone: [Al-Baqarah 2:201]. And when you align with the Stone a second time, you say: Allahu Akbar only. And what does the one performing tawaf say for the rest of the tawaf? He says whatever he wishes of dhikr, du'a', and recitation of the Qur'an, because the intention is to occupy oneself with what brings one closer to Allah, Mighty and Majestic. If you wish to recite the Qur'an, recite; if you wish to remember Allah, remember Allah; if you wish to glorify, glorify; if you wish to say takbir, say takbir, as you wish, until you complete seven circuits. And with that, the tawaf is finished. And know that in this tawaf - and I mean by that men - two sunnahs are prescribed for you:
The first sunnah is that you should expose your right shoulder with your rida. And the meaning of exposing the shoulder is: that you make the middle of the rida under the armpit and its ends on the left shoulder throughout the tawaf.
And that you run in the first three circuits. And running is: walking quickly with short steps. And this is if it is easy. As for if there is a crowd, then a person cannot run without causing harm to himself or harm to others. When you complete seven circuits, proceed to the Station of Ibrahim and recite, while facing the Station of Ibrahim, recite the saying of Allah, the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:125]. Then pray two rak'ahs. Pray two rak'ahs. You recite in the first with al-Fatihah. And in the second [Al-Ikhlas 112:1] with al-Fatihah. And make the two rak'ahs light. And do not stay after them. Leave the place for others. And when you finish the prayer, if it is easy to return to the Black Stone and touch it, do so. And if it is not easy, do not point. Head to al-Safa to perform sa'y between al-Safa and al-Marwah. When you approach al-Safa, recite: [Al-Baqarah 2:158]. And if you wish, add: I begin with what Allah began with. This is said when you face al-Safa, when you ascend it. When you face it. And you say it the first time and do not say it at al-Marwah. Then ascend al-Safa and face the qiblah, raise your hands, and supplicate to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and remember Him with what has come. Then descend, descend from al-Safa heading to al-Marwah. When you align with the green markers - meaning the green poles and above them green lights - then run. Run as much as you can, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sa'y vigorously, his izar swirling around him. And this is conditional on there being no crowd. If there is a crowd, then do as you are able. And do not sa'y, meaning do not sa'y vigorously, so that you are harmed and you harm others. Until you reach al-Marwah. When you reach it, ascend it, face the qiblah, raise your hands, and say what you said on al-Safa. Praise, dhikr, and du'a'. Then descend from it heading to? To al-Safa. Walk in the place of walking and run in the place of running. When you face al-Safa, do not recite the verse. The verse is only recited when you face al-Safa the first time. And you ascend al-Safa and supplicate to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, with what you supplicated with in the first circuit, until you complete seven circuits. Then shave or shorten your hair. But if the time of Hajj is near, then shortening is better in 'Umrah so that the hair is available for Hajj. And with this, you exit the state of ihram completely. So 'Umrah is now: ihram, tawaf, sa'y, and shaving or shortening. It is completed now, and you are released from everything that was forbidden to you by the ihram.
O Messenger of Allah! Is there jihad for women? He said: For them is a jihad in which there is no fighting: Hajj and 'Umrah.
يا رسول الله! هل على النساء جهاد؟ قال: عليهن جهاد لا قتال فيه : الحج والعمرة(195) And spend in the way of Allah and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction [by refraining]. And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good. (196) And complete the Hajj and 'umrah for Allah. But if you are prevented, then [offer] what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals. And do not shave your heads until the sacrificial animal has reached its place of slaughter. And whoever among you is ill or has an ailment of the head [making shaving necessary must offer] a ransom of fasting [three days] or charity or sacrifice. And when you are secure, then whoever performs 'umrah [during the Hajj months] followed by Hajj [offers] what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals. And whoever cannot find [or afford such an animal] - then a fast of three days during Hajj and of seven when you have returned [home]. Those are ten complete [days]. This is for those whose family is not in the area of al-Masjid al-Haram. And fear Allah and know that Allah is severe in penalty.
First: A person ties his saddle from his country to Makkah. هل سافرت معه؟ قال: لا. قال: إذن أنت لا تعرفهOur Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire."
