The Manner of 'Umrah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
As for the manner of 'Umrah: When a person reaches the miqat, he removes his clothes, takes a bath, and applies perfume to his head and beard, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did. Then he wears a white, clean, or new izar and rida. The woman does as the man does, except regarding the clothing; she wears what she usually wears and whatever clothes she wishes, provided she does not display her adornment and does not use perfume whose scent is noticeable, so that there is no fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) in that.
Once he has completed that, let him enter the state of ihram.

And if he rides in a car, let him say: Labbaik Allahumma 'Umrah,And there is no need for him to say: intending to combine it with Hajj,Rather, he says: Labbaik Allahumma 'Umrah, and his intention is sufficient.
He continues to recite the talbiyah until he reaches Makkah.
Then he proceeds to the Ka'bah and performs tawaf. This tawaf is the first one, and it is recommended (mustahabb) for the man to expose his right shoulder (idhtiba') from the beginning to the end of the tawaf, and to perform ramal (brisk walking) in the first three circuits.

So idhtiba' is: He places the middle of his rida under his right armpit and its ends on his left shoulder throughout the tawaf; however, he does not perform idhtiba' before or after the tawaf. As for ramal, it is done only in the first three circuits, and it consists of walking quickly with short steps.
At the beginning of the tawaf, he touches the Black Stone and kisses it. If he cannot do so, he touches it and kisses his hand. If he cannot do that either, he points to it and does not kiss his hand. And he says at the beginning of the tawaf: In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, in faith in You, and affirmation of Your Book, and fulfillment of Your covenant, and following the Sunnah of Your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He keeps the House on his left.
He wipes the Yemeni Corner with his right hand. If he cannot do so, he does not point to it, because that was not reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and acts of worship are not established by analogical reasoning (qiyas).

And he says between him and the Black Stone:
Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire."رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
[al-Baqarah: 201] If he says it before reaching the Black Stone, and this is when the tawaf is crowded, he repeats it. Even if he repeats it ten times, there is no harm.
When he passes the Black Stone, he says Allahu Akbar. Then he says Allahu Akbar every time he passes the Black Stone. He does not say it at the Yemeni Corner, because that was not reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
When he completes the seven circuits, during which he should make du'a' (supplication), remember Allah, and recite the Qur'an if he wishes, and if he sees what is wrong, he should forbid it, and if he sees a neglect of an obligation, he should command it, because this is part of the good; but he should not let it distract him from his tawaf. When he completes them, he prays two rak'ahs behind the Maqam,He recites in the first rak'ah:
Say, O you disbelieversقُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ
[al-Kafirun: 1] ,And in the second:
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
[al-Ikhlas: 1] along with al-Fatihah, and it is recommended (sunnah) to shorten them.
Then he leaves immediately after them and does not sit to make du'a', because that was not reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Then he proceeds to the place of sa'y,When he approaches al-Safa, he recites:
Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allahإِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ
[al-Baqarah: 158] I begin with what Allah began with. He climbs al-Safa, faces the qiblah, and raises his hands in supplication,And he says: saying Allahu Akbar three times (There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is able to do all things. There is no god but Allah alone. He fulfilled His promise, and He gave victory to His servant, and He defeated the confederates alone) Then he makes du'a' as he wishes, then he repeats the dhikr a second time, then he makes du'a' as he wishes, then he repeats the dhikr a third time.
Then he descends heading toward al-Marwah until he reaches the green pillars, where he performs sa'y with great effort -Meaning: running - unless there is a crowd and he is harmed by running, or he harms others, in which case he does not do it.
When he reaches al-Marwah, he climbs it and says what he said on al-Safa. This is one circuit.
When he returns from al-Marwah to al-Safa, this is another circuit, until he completes seven circuits.

Question: What does he say during these long circuits?
He says whatever he wishes of dhikr, du'a', Qur'an, and other things.
I point out here that there are booklets containing du'a' for each circuit of tawaf and du'a' for each circuit of sa'y. This is a bid'ah (religious innovation) with no basis, and it is not to be practiced, because every bid'ah is misguidance.

There are also some people who, whenever they climb al-Safa or approach it, say:
Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allahإِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ
[al-Baqarah: 158] , and likewise at al-Marwah. This is an error. One only recites this verse when leaving the Sacred Mosque and approaching al-Safa before climbing it, reciting it once, only the first time.
Then, after the sa'y, he shortens his hair from the entire head.
With that, the 'Umrah is completed, and he has exited the state of ihram completely.
