The Manner of 'Umrah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
As for the manner of that, we say: When one reaches the miqat, and the miqats are five: Dhu al-Hulayfah for the people of Madinah and for whoever passes through it, al-Juhfah for the people of the Levant and for whoever passes through it, Yalamlam for the people of Yemen and for whoever passes through it, Qarn al-Manazil for the people of Najd and for whoever passes through it, and Dhat 'Araq for the people of Iraq. When the one who intends to enter the state of ihram reaches the miqat, he performs the full ritual bath as he does for major ritual impurity, then applies perfume to his head and beard, then wears the garments of ihram, an izar and a rida. This is for the man.
As for the woman, she does this, meaning: She performs the full ritual bath and applies perfume that does not have a scent noticeable to those around her, and she wears the clothes she intends to wear without any restriction, except that she does not display her adornment out of fear of causing fitnah. Then he says: Labbaik Allahumma 'Umrah.
And he continues to recite the talbiyah. The man raises his voice with it, and the woman keeps it to herself. The best manner of reciting the talbiyah is the talbiyah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family): (Labbaik Allahumma labbaik, labbaik la sharika laka labbaik, innal hamda wan ni'mata laka wal mulk, la sharika lak) And the man raises his voice with it, for nothing hears it except that it will testify for him on the Day of Resurrection. When he reaches Makkah and enters the house -I mean: the mosque- he says upon entering it what he says upon entering other mosques: (In the name of Allah, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, open for me the gates of Your mercy) and he proceeds to the Black Stone and touches it with his right hand -Meaning: he wipes it and kisses it- if it is possible for him, and if it is not possible, he points to it, following the action of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family),And he says: saying: In the name of Allah and Allah is the Greatest, O Allah, in faith in You, and affirmation of Your Book, and fulfillment of Your covenant, and following the Sunnah of Your Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), as Ibn 'Umar used to say. Then he places the House on his left and performs seven circuits. When he passes the Yemeni Corner next to the Black Stone, he touches it with his right hand, and if that is difficult for him, he points to it. And in his tawaf, he recites whatever he wishes of the Qur'an, dhikr, tasbih, tahmid, takbir, and du'a. There is no specific du'a in the tawaf except the takbir at the Black Stone every time he passes it, and saying: [al-Baqarah: 201] between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, and everything else is up to the choice of the one performing tawaf.
And beware, O pilgrim! of making this bid'ah du'a, which is to make a specific du'a for every circuit. For this is a bid'ah that has not been reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). Then it is a du'a that may not be what the one performing tawaf wants. Then many of those who recite it do not know its meaning. So advise your brothers when you see them doing this,And say: saying: This is a bid'ah, and supplicate to Allah with what you want, for every person has a need different from the need of another. In this tawaf, two sunnahs are recommended for the man: The first: idtiba'.
Second: Ramal.
As for idtiba': It is that he places the middle of his rida under his right armpit and its ends on his left shoulder, so that his right shoulder is exposed in all circuits of the tawaf.
As for ramal: It is that he walks quickly, but only in the first three circuits. When he completes seven circuits, he proceeds to the Station of Ibrahim and recites: [al-Baqarah: 125] He says this to remind himself of the command of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and to follow the example of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). He prays two rak'ahs behind the Station, making them brief,He recites in the first rak'ah: reciting [al-Kafirun: 1] after al-Fatihah,The second: [al-Ikhlas: 1] after al-Fatihah. He makes them brief and does not linger after them, but leaves immediately, following the example of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and leaving the place for others who have finished their tawaf.
Then he turns to the Black Stone and touches it if he is able, or otherwise he proceeds -without pointing- to al-Safa.When he approaches al-Safa, he recites: [al-Baqarah: 158] before he ascends al-Safa, following the example of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and to remember the noble verse in which Allah informed that al-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. When he ascends al-Safa, he faces the qiblah and raises his hands, and says what was reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family),And among that is that he says takbir three times and says: (There is no god but Allah alone, having no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent. There is no god but Allah alone, He fulfilled His promise, and He gave victory to His servant, and He defeated the confederates alone) Then he supplicates with what he loves, then he repeats the dhikr a second time and supplicates with what he loves, then he repeats the dhikr a third time, then he descends heading to al-Marwah, walking as usual until he reaches the green marker -Meaning: the green pillar- which has green lights placed above it opposite it. He runs in this -Meaning: he runs vigorously if it is possible for him- until he reaches the other marker, then he walks at a normal pace until he reaches al-Marwah. When he reaches al-Marwah, he ascends it and faces the qiblah, raising his hands, saying what he said on al-Safa. Then he descends heading to al-Safa, walking in the places of walking and running in the place of running,And he does not recite the verse: ((Indeed, al-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah)) [al-Baqarah: 158] except once, when he faces al-Safa after the tawaf. But he remembers Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) and recites the Qur'an and supplicates. And Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say while sa'ying in the valley where the marker was placed as a sign: [My Lord, forgive and have mercy, My Lord, forgive and have mercy, My Lord, forgive and have mercy] When he completes seven circuits from al-Safa to al-Marwah, one circuit being from al-Safa to al-Marwah and the return from al-Marwah to al-Safa being another circuit, he shortens his hair -Meaning: he cuts it with scissors or a clipper- and shaving is not recommended if the time of Hajj is near; because if he shaved, there would be no hair left for Hajj. Then he exits his state of ihram completely, and he remains until the eighth day of Dhu al-Hijjah. On the eighth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, he enters the state of ihram for Hajj, and he does upon entering ihram what he did upon entering ihram for 'Umrah.
And the discussion of the manner of Hajj will come, if Allah wills, in the next meeting, if Allah wills.
