The invalidity of the Shaykh’s license to his disciple and the innovation of doing so

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q2: Some of the Sufis say: The Shaykh’s license to his disciple by saying to him: “I have licensed you, O seeker, to recite ‘There is no god but Allah’ 140 times, for example, in a continuous chain tracing back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then to Jibril, then to Allah the Exalted. Is this statement correct or invalid, and is this license valid from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or is it an innovation?
A2: The remembrance of the servants of their Lord does not depend on permission from the Shaykhs to remember Him (Glorified and Exalted is He) by reciting His Book and by the remembrances narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), such as glorification, praise, and the declaration of His oneness and greatness, after Allah has commanded us to do so and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has encouraged us to do so. So, if any of the Sufi Shaykhs or their disciples claim that there is a servant for every name of Allah, or that there is a restriction on remembering Allah as prescribed by Allah until the Shaykh gives the disciple permission to remember Him, then he has innovated in the religion and fabricated lies against Allah and His Messenger. For it has not been established in the Book of Allah or in the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) anything indicating any of that. What some of the Sufis claim is only from the newly invented innovations. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever introduces into our matter something that does not belong to it is rejected.من أحدث في أمرنا ما ليس منه فهو رد
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 17:1261
, and Allah is the One to be sought for help.
