In one of the tapes, when I was asked about rapprochement between the Sunnis and the Shi'ah, I said that the better option is rapprochement between the people of hadith and the Asha'irah and the Maturidiyyah.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good. When you were in Riyadh, you said in one of the tapes, when your brother Sultan al-Khamis asked you about rapprochement between the Shi'ah and the people of the Sunnah, that you said: the better option is rapprochement between the people of the Sunnah, who are divided into the people of hadith in matters of creed, and the Asha'irah and the Maturidiyyah!

The Shaykh: Perfect.

The questioner : Does this mean that the Asha'irah and the Maturidiyyah are among the people of the Sunnah and the community?

The Shaykh : In common usage, that is the case. In fact, when the term "people of the Sunnah and the community" is used by the majority of Muslims, it does not occur to them that the people of hadith are among the people of the Sunnah and the community; rather, what they intend is the Maturidiyyah and the Asha'irah.

The questioner : Are they the people of the Sunnah and the community?

The Shaykh : We testify that they are far from the Sunnah and the community in many matters of creed.

The questioner: Yes.
