Is it permissible to give employees from the funds of zakah if their salaries are not sufficient for them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Well, a man—O our Shaykh—took from the zakah funds and gave to the employees. I mean, here in Egypt, an employee takes, for example, forty or fifty pounds, which in reality is not enough to cover the rent of his residence. Is this employee eligible for zakah?

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you, this returns to the general rule: whether he is rich or poor.

The questioner : What if this employee has a father who has millions in wealth, but he does not give him anything?

The Shaykh : Does he live under his father's roof, or is he independent of him?

The questioner : No, he is independent of him.

The Shaykh : Then it is the same rule.

The questioner : It is the same rule.

The Shaykh : Yes, meaning that if he is poor, the fact that his father is rich does not prevent him from taking his right from the zakah.

The questioner: Yes.
