What is your opinion on the statement that the default is for the one performing the obligatory prayer to lead the one performing a voluntary prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : There remains another aspect of this issue, which is that the brotherAbu Layla : yesterday, the one who was late to the Maghrib prayer, came in and found that we had already prayed. So I stood up with him and prayed Maghrib with him, on the basis that I was performing a voluntary prayer and he was performing the obligatory one, so he was the one who led me.

The Shaykh : And it is so.

The questioner : Yes, but some of the brothers objected and said: What is the evidence that the one performing the obligatory prayer is the one who leads? So I told him that this is the default.

The Shaykh : It is so, but you have evidence in the hadith itself, because the hadith says:
So he prayed with him فصلى معه
, and it did not say: "So he prayed with him."

The questioner : Ah, yes, what about this addition?

The Shaykh : Yes, so what you did is correct, if Allah wills.

The questioner : If Allah wills.
