The Permissibility of a Person Praying a Voluntary Prayer Following a Person Praying an Obligatory Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh: A person praying a voluntary prayer led a person praying an obligatory prayer, and the obligatory prayer for this person was four rak'ahs. So he stood and prayed two rak'ahs with him as imam, and then he concluded the prayer after the two rak'ahs. Then the person praying the obligatory prayer stood up and completed the prayer as a four-rak'ah prayer. What is the ruling on that?
There is no harm in a person praying a voluntary prayer being the imam for a person praying an obligatory prayer. There is also no harm in the person praying the voluntary prayer praying two rak'ahs and then concluding the prayer, and after his conclusion, the person praying the obligatory prayer completing the remainder of the obligatory prayer. This is because Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) used to pray the night prayer with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and then he would return to his people and pray with them the same prayer. So it was a voluntary prayer for him and an obligatory prayer for them.
