Speaking about welcoming the new year with repentance and taking a lesson.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
As for what follows, this is the first monthly meeting held in this year. This month is the month of Muharram, year 1420 AH. And this night is the night of the sixteenth of it. I ask Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, to make it a year of good and blessing for Islam and the Muslims, and to grant victory to our Muslim brothers in Kosovo over their aggressive Serbian enemies. I ask Allah the Exalted to grant our brothers the necks of those aggressive, unjust Serbs. And that is not difficult for Allah. I urge my Muslim brothers to increase their supplication to Allah the Exalted for them at all times, and to recite the qunut in the Fajr prayer, as our rulers have instructed us to recite the qunut for them in the Fajr prayer. So we adhere to what our rulers have mentioned to us, because the basis of qunut in the Kingdom is only after the permission of the ruler. For the qunut is addressed to the ruler, not to every individual alone, because it is a type of authority. We ask Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, to grant our brothers swift victory, and to gladden our eyes with the defeat of those Serbs, for He is Able to do all things.
A sensible person should take a lesson from what has passed regarding what is to come. O my Muslim brother, you have spent a full year; twelve months have passed as if they were minutes, or even moments. So take a lesson for the future from the past. If you remain in this world, it will pass by you quickly, just as the past year passed by you. So prepare, my brother, for righteous deeds. Seize the opportunity. Do not waste your time in vain. Time is more precious than money and more valuable. Have you seen the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic:
until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back (100) That I might do righteousness in that which I left behind." حَتَّى إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدَهُمْ الْمَوْتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ارْجِعُونِ لَعَلِّي أَعْمَلُ صَالِحاً فِيمَا تَرَكْتُ
[Al-Mu'minun 23:99-100]
. And he did not say: "Perhaps I will enjoy myself in this world, perhaps I will build palaces and raise them." But he said:
That I might do righteousness in that which I left behind لَعَلِّي أَعْمَلُ صَالِحاً فِيمَا تَرَكْتُ
[Al-Mu'minun 23:100]
Increase in the obedience of Allah. Allah has daily, weekly, and annual duties for you. Perform these duties. Among the daily duties are the five prayers, which are one of the pillars of Islam and the greatest of the pillars of Islam after the two testimonies. Preserve them, and order your children to pray at seven, and beat them for it at ten. And check on your neighbors and give them advice and guidance, so that perhaps Allah will guide them through your hand.
