Reflections on Welcoming the New Academic Year.

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own souls and from the evil of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever He leaves to misguide, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. Allah the Exalted sent him at a time of pause among the messengers and darkness in the paths. He sent him with a complete religion, organizing for creation their worship, their transactions, their morals, and their conditions. So he conveyed the message, fulfilled the trust, advised the nation, and struggled in the cause of Allah with true struggle until certainty came to him. Even in the last of his life, (peace and blessings be upon him), he was advising his nation: Sunan Ibn Majah 1625Da’if (Darussalam). He did not leave a time or a moment except that he was guiding his nation to good. He conveyed the message, fulfilled the trust, advised the nation, and struggled in the cause of Allah with true struggle until certainty came to him. So may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
As for what follows: This is the monthly meeting that takes place in the Great Mosque in the city of Unaizah. It takes place on this night, the night of the twenty-fifth of the month of Jumada al-Ula, in the year 1420 AH. So we ask Allah, Mighty and Majestic, who has facilitated such meetings, to make them blessed and beneficial meetings. O Allah, make them blessed and beneficial meetings for us, for our listening brothers, and for our brothers who are listening. And since we are welcoming a new academic year, as our brother the Shaykh, Mahmoud ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Sayyigh, mentioned, and this is well known, it is more fitting and better that we speak about what we should use to welcome this new year. So we say: This year, like other years, sees young and old entering the field of learning, from the first grade of primary school to the end of the university and postgraduate studies. Each one of them, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Each one goes out in the morningSunan Ibn Majah 280Sahih (Darussalam). It is upon us in welcoming this year to observe the following notes:
The prayer, and those whom your hands possess.
