Clarification that the righteous Salaf understood from the verse: “Today I have perfected for you your religion” that the religion is complete and not open to addition

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Our righteous Salaf knew this reality: that there is no room for drawing near to Allah through acts of worship, recitations, or dhikr that have appeared after the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). We find many reports in the sayings of this Salaf, all revolving around this meaning: that the religion is complete and does not accept addition. For example, Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said, on the occasion of the aforementioned verse: “Whoever innovates a religious innovation that he considers good has claimed that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) betrayed the message. Read the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
He said, clarifying and making it explicit: “What was not a religion at that time will not be a religion today, and the end of this Ummah will not be rectified except by what rectified its beginning.” By what was its beginning rectified? By following, not by innovating. Therefore, this is the methodology that all Muslims should adopt in their drawing near to and worship of Allah (Mighty and Majestic): it is limited to what came in the Book and what came in the Sunnah. For Malik explicitly states in this regard: “What was not a religion at that time will not be a religion today, and the end of this Ummah will not be rectified except by what rectified its beginning from the religion,” meaning the complete religion that does not accept addition. This aligns with the saying of Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): “Follow and do not innovate, for you have been sufficed. Hold fast to the ancient affair.” “Follow and do not innovate, for you have been sufficed. Hold fast to the ancient affair.” There is no doubt that he means what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions were upon. The reports in this meaning are numerous. I only wished to draw attention to the fact that this verse contains a great blessing for the Muslims, but unfortunately, except for a few of them, they have not appreciated it as it deserves. So they added many innovations to Islam, until this Islam, with its acts of worship, recitations, and dhikr, became a heavy burden that a person cannot bear.
