Explanation of the Hadith of al-'Arba' ibn Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him), in which he said

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The second hadith is like the first hadith, also being one of the qudsi hadiths, as the author stated.
And from al-'Arba' ibn Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), meaning from his Lord, Blessed and Exalted is He, that He said:
If I were to deprive My slave of His two precious gifts, and he were reluctant to part with them, I would not be pleased for him with any reward other than Paradise, if he praises Me for them إذا سلبت من عبدي كريمتيه وهو بهما ضنين لم أرضَ له ثوابا دون الجنة إذا هو حمدني عليهما
Sahih Ibn Hibban 11:41
It was narrated by Ibn Hibban in his Sahih.
In this narration of the hadith of al-'Arba' ibn Sariyah, there are two additions that were not in the first narration from Anas. The first addition is his saying (peace be upon him)
and he were reluctant to part with them وهو بهما ضنين
This addition describes the natural state of a person, for every person is reluctant, stingy, and miserly about giving up any of the blessings that Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, has bestowed upon him. So if this blessing, the blessing of sight, is taken from him, it is certain, by the nature of reality, that he will be reluctant about it, meaning it will be very difficult for him to become blind, deprived of sight, after Allah, Mighty and Majestic, created him with sight.
This is the difficulty that the one who is aware of it finds, which is indicated by his saying (peace be upon him)
and he were reluctant to part with them وهو بها ضنين
if he receives it with patience, as we mentioned. And the second addition in this hadith, specifically, is "and he praises Me for them." How is that? Because the Muslim praises Allah in all circumstances, for if he is struck with prosperity, meaning a blessing, he praises Allah and gives thanks, and that is better for him. And if he is struck with adversity, a calamity like this great calamity of being tested with his two beloveds, his eyes, he also praises Allah and is patient with it.
And for this reason, it came in some authentic hadiths through the route of Aisha and others from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
that he had two praises with which he praised [Allah]. When something that pleased him and made him happy came to him, he would say, "Praise be to Allah, by whose blessing good deeds are completed." And when something that distressed him and made him sad came to him, he would say, "Praise be to Allah in all circumstances." أنه كان له حمدان يحمدهما كان إذا جاءه أمر يسره ويفرحه قال الحمدلله الذي بنعمته تتم الصالحات وإذا جاءه أمر يكربه ويحزنه قال الحمدلله على كل حال
In this hadith, there is a reference to this type of praise, the second praise. That this Muslim, whom Allah, Mighty and Majestic, tested with his two beloveds, his eyes, and he was patient and praised Allah for it, had no reward with Allah, Mighty and Majestic, except Paradise.
