Continuation of the chapter on "Encouraging Patience, Especially for One Afflicted in Himself or His Wealth, and the Virtue of Affliction, Illness, and Fever, and What Came Regarding One Who Lost His Sight" — Explanation of a Hadith
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : All praise is due to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our own selves and from the badness of our deeds. Whom Allah guides, none can mislead, and whom He leaves to mislead, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger.
[Ali 'Imran 3:102] .
[An-Nisa 4:1] .
[Al-Ahzab 33:70-71] .
As for what follows:
For the best of speech is the speech of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the worst of matters are their newly invented ones, and every newly invented matter is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire.
Tonight we are in a new section of the sections on encouraging patience. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) says: "The hadith is authentic."
From Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:Sahih al-Bukhari 5653 He means his eyes. It was narrated by al-Bukhari and al-Tirmidhi.
And in his wording, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2400Sahih (Darussalam).
And in a narration from him:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2401Sahih (Darussalam).
This hadith explains the virtue of a specific type of patience, namely when a Muslim is afflicted with blindness. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, afflicts His servants with whatever He wills, and among that is that He afflicts some of them with blindness. The reward for this afflicted person, as you have heard, is that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is not pleased to give him a reward other than Paradise. However, you must always and forever note with me that this is conditioned upon patience and calculating the reward with Allah, Mighty and Majestic. As for the one who complains, grumbles, and objects to the decree and destiny of Allah, if he is saved by his faith so that he does not remain in the humiliating punishment, that is sufficient for him as a reward. But as for having Paradise as his reward for this affliction when he did not have patience with it and did not calculate his reward with Allah, he has absolutely nothing of that. We should always and forever remember this.
And in this chapter there are several hadiths for this meaning. We should note in them these conditions: patience and calculating the reward with Allah, Mighty and Majestic. In this hadith of Anas, there is an explicit statement in his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): He said in the first narration, and in the last narration: He said, Blessed and Exalted is He, in this hadith: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2401Sahih (Darussalam) And this hadith is among the hadiths that are grouped with the jurisprudential hadiths.
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
As for what follows:

From Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
Allah said, 'If I deprive my slave of his two beloved things (i.e., his eyes) and he remains patient, I will let him enter Paradise in compensation for them.'"
And in his wording, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed Allah [Most High] said: 'When I take My slave's sight in the world, then there shall be no reward for him with Me except Paradise.'
And in a narration from him:
For whomever I take his sight, and he is patient and seeking a reward, I shall not be satisfied with any reward for him less than Paradise.
