Was there a prohibition in the Sunnah against hunting pigeons, particularly during the breeding season and similar times?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Was there a prohibition in the Sunnah against hunting pigeons, particularly during the breeding season and similar times?

The Shaykh : Pigeons are among the birds whose consumption is permissible. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has made hunting permissible, except for one in the state of ihram. As for prohibiting hunting in a specific circumstance, such as when the time for breeding and reproduction arrives, this falls under the principle of maslahah mursalah (unrestricted public interest) that we have mentioned more than once. If there are Muslim rulers who study the situation extensively in light of Islam and the guidance of the Book, and it appears to them that hunting a specific animal whose meat is religiously permissible should be prohibited, then at that time, one must adhere to this prohibition because it is issued based on a religious ruling. In fact, Islam values such matters more than non-Muslims do. However, unfortunately, Muslims have distanced themselves from their religion and their Islam, some out of ignorance of it, and some out of negligence in applying it.
