The Sixth Condition: That one be free from the impediments, which are menstruation and post-natal bleeding.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The sixth condition is that one be free from the impediments, and this is specific to women. The impediments are menstruation and post-natal bleeding, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Isn't it true that a woman does not pray and does not fast on menstruating? أليس إذا حاضت لم تصل ولم تصم
Sahih al-Bukhari 1951
Therefore, a menstruating woman or a woman with post-natal bleeding is not obligated to fast. In fact, if they were to fast, the fast would be forbidden for them, and their obligation would not be discharged by it. These six conditions are the conditions for the obligation of performing the fast. We will repeat them a second time in summary so that it becomes clear to us: that one must be a Muslim, of age, sane, capable, resident, and free from impediments. If these conditions are met, fasting becomes obligatory and breaking the fast becomes forbidden. As for if one of these conditions is lacking, you have learned how the ruling is. We will now stop here at the first section of the rulings on fasting, and in the next session we will speak about the things that break the fast and the conditions... with which we will return to the questions, because there are many of them.
