The questioner : The questioner says: Your Eminence,The Shaykh : We often see in women's gatherings young boys and girls, around seven years old or so, wearing short or tight clothing, or with strange cuts, or with haircuts for young girls that resemble the haircuts of young boys. When we speak to the mother and advise her, she objects by saying that they are still young. We ask you, may Allah reward you, to provide a clear explanation regarding the issue of children's clothing and their haircuts. May Allah bless you.
The Shaykh : It is well known that a person is influenced by things in their youth and remains influenced by them after growing up. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to order children to pray at what age? Seven years old. And to beat them for it at ten, so that they may become accustomed to it. A child is as they are accustomed to. If a young girl becomes accustomed to wearing short clothing that reaches the knee, or short clothing that reaches the upper arm or shoulder, her modesty will be lost. And she will find this clothing acceptable after she grows up. The same applies to hair. A woman must have hair that distinguishes her from men. If she makes her hair like the hair of men, she has imitated them. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the women who imitate men. It should be known that parents are responsible for these children and for guiding and raising them. As the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:. So beware, beware of negligence! Let a person be serious in guiding his sons and daughters, and be concerned for them until Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) rectifies them and they become a source of joy for him.
