Continuation of the explanation of the hadith of 'Iyadh (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: (

The Shaykh : The completion of this hadith is: 'Iyadh said: "And I was at war with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)," meaning that before his Islam, he was among the disbelievers who fought the Messenger (peace be upon him) because of his call to Islam. 'Iyadh said: "So I offered him a she-camel as a gift before I embraced Islam, but he did not accept it, and he said: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 428." This is 'Iyadh, before Allah (Mighty and Majestic) guided him to Islam; it occurred to him to present a gift to the Messenger (peace be upon him), even though he had not yet believed in him or believed in his truth. So he presented him with a she-camel, but the Messenger (peace be upon him) rejected it and returned it to him, explaining this by saying (peace be upon him): Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 428. "Zabd" is the gift, the present, and the donation; that is, anything a man presents to another is called "zabd." It is not "zabada" (cream) in the common sense. This "zabd," with the fathah on the zay and sukun on the ba, is the gift and the present. So when the Messenger (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him) returned the she-camel to 'Iyadh and did not accept it as a gift from him, he followed the rejection with an apology by saying: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 428. It is as if he is saying: There is no connection between me and you, no affection; I am a Muslim and you are a polytheist, so how can I accept your gift and donation? Perhaps one day you will boast to me about this gift. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 428. And perhaps this was the cause of 'Iyadh's Islam, because he explicitly states in this hadith that this incident occurred before he embraced Islam. When he presented the she-camel to the Messenger (peace be upon him) as a gift and he rejected it on the grounds that you are a polytheist, perhaps that hurt his feelings and prompted him to think about his hostile stance toward the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This led him to embrace Islam, and his Islam was good, and he came to have many hadiths recorded in the books of the Muslims under the Musnad of 'Iyadh ibn Himar, so he became one of the noble and distinguished Companions.
