And prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted in the context of the hadiths in the Book of Jihad: "From Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him)
Abu Qatadah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood up among his Companions and said, "Jihad in the way of Allah and belief in Allah (with all His Attributes) are the most meritorious of actions." A man stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Inform me if I am killed in the way of Allah, will my sins be blotted out?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Yes, in case you are killed in the way of Allah and you remained patient, hopeful of reward, and advancing forward without retracing back (i.e., while fighting)." Then he said, "What was your question?" He inquired again: "Inform me, if I am killed in the way of Allah, will all my sins be blotted out?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) replied, "If you remained patient, hopeful of reward and always fought without turning your back upon enemy, everything, except debt, will be forgiven. Jibril has told me this." [Muslim] .
Riyad as-Salihin 1313
Narrated by Muslim, and from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:
A man said: Where will I be, O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed? He said: In Paradise. So he threw away the dates that were in his hand, then he fought until he was killed.
Narrated by Muslim, and from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:
Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and his Companions reached Badr before the polytheists, and when they arrived, he (ﷺ) directed: "Let no one of you advance ahead of me." When the polytheists came near, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Now stand up and proceed towards Jannah which is as wide as are the heavens and the earth." 'Umair bin Al-Humam (May Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Is Jannah as wide as are the heaven and the earth?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) replied in the affirmative. 'Umair remarked: "Great!" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) asked him what had urged him to say so. He replied: "Nothing, O Messenger of Allah! But hope that I might become one of the inhabitants of Jannah." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "You will definitely be among them." 'Umair then took some dates out of his quiver and began to eat them, but after a short time he said: "If I survive till I eat my dates, it will mean a long life." So he threw away the dates which he had with him and then fought with the enemy till he was killed. [Muslim] .
Riyad as-Salihin 1315
Narrated by Muslim, and from him (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:
Some people came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Send with us men who will teach us the Qur'an and the Sunnah." So he sent to them seventy men from the Ansar, called the Qurrat, among whom was my maternal uncle Haram. They would recite the Qur'an and study it among themselves at night, learning it. By day, they would bring water and place it in the mosque, gather firewood and sell it, and buy food with the proceeds for the people of the Suffah and the poor. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent them, but they were intercepted and killed before they reached their destination. They said: "O Allah, convey to our Prophet that we have met You, and we are pleased with You and You are pleased with us." A man came up behind Haram, the maternal uncle of Anas, and stabbed him with a spear, piercing him through. Haram said: "I have won, by the Lord of the Ka'bah." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your brothers have been killed, and they said: 'O Allah, convey to our Prophet that we have met You, and we are pleased with You and You are pleased with us.'"
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim, and this is the wording of Muslim, and from him (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: My uncle Anas ibn al-Nadr (may Allah be pleased with him) was absent from the Battle of Badr. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I was absent from the first battle in which you fought the polytheists. If Allah lets me witness the fighting of the polytheists, He will see what I do." When the day of Uhud came and the Muslims were routed, he said: "O Allah, I absolve You of what these people have done," meaning his Companions, "and I disavow You of what these people have done," meaning the polytheists. Then he advanced, and Sa'd ibn Mu'adh met him. He said: "O Sa'd ibn Mu'adh, by the Lord of al-Nadr, I smell the scent of Paradise from beyond Uhud." Sa'd said: "What could I do, O Messenger of Allah, about what he did?" Anas said: "We found on him eighty wounds, by sword, spear, or arrow. We found that he had been killed and mutilated by the polytheists, and no one recognized him except his sister by his fingernails." Anas said: "We thought or believed that this verse was revealed concerning him and those like him among the believers: 'Men who fulfilled their covenant with Allah...'" to the end of it. Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim, and from Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Last night two men came to me (in a dream) and made me ascend a tree and then admitted me into a better and superior house, better of which I have never seen. One of them said, 'This house is the house of martyrs."
Sahih al-Bukhari 2791
Narrated by al-Bukhari, and from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him)
Anas told that ar-Rubaiyi‘ daughter of al-Bara’, who was the mother of Haritha b. Suraqa, came to the Prophet and said, “Prophet of God, will you not tell me about Haritha? (He had been killed at the battle of Badr, being struck by a random arrow.) If he is in paradise I shall show endurance, but if he has met another fate I shall exert myself in weeping for him.” He replied, “Mother of Haritha, in paradise there are gardens, and your son has attained to al-Firdaus, the highest.”
Mishkat al-Masabih 3809
Narrated by al-Bukhari, and from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with them both) who said:
The dead body of my father, who was mutilated by the enemy, was brought and placed before the Prophet (ﷺ). I got up to uncover his face but the people stopped me, and the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The angels continue to cover him with their wings."
Riyad as-Salihin 1320
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim, and from Sahl ibn Hanif (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever asks Allah the Exalted for martyrdom with sincerity, Allah will grant him the rank of the martyrs even if he dies on his bed
Narrated by Muslim".

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
These hadiths are about the virtue of the martyrs who were killed in the cause of Allah and that they have Paradise, as Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed. [It is] a true promise [binding] upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an
[At-Tawbah 9:111]
The author mentioned many hadiths in this lesson that indicate the truthfulness of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and the truthfulness of their faith. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) informed them of what the martyrs have, so they threw away the food in their hands and left it, and they advanced to jihad in the cause of Allah, then they were killed and they met Allah Mighty and Majestic, pleased with them and He pleased with them (Exalted and Majestic is He). And this is undoubtedly among the virtues of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) in which no one after them can catch up with them. This is 'Amir ibn al-Hammam al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of Badr: Whoever fights them seeking reward, advancing and not retreating, Paradise is obligatory for him, which is as vast as the heavens and the earth. He said: “O Messenger of Allah, is it a Paradise as vast as the heavens and the earth?” He said: “Yes.” Then he took out some dates from his quiver, which is where food is usually placed and taken by the mujahid, and began to eat. Then he longed for life, may Allah be pleased with him, and said, “By Allah, if I remain until I eat these dates, it will indeed be a long life.” Then he advanced, fought, and was killed, may Allah be pleased with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) had testified to him with Paradise. Likewise, Anas ibn al-Nadr, may Allah be pleased with him, met Sa'd ibn Mu'adh in the Battle of Uhud and informed him that he could smell the scent of Paradise before Uhud. Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, said: “This is among the karamah (miracles granted to a righteous person) by which Allah honors whom He wills of His servants, that they smell the scent of Paradise while on earth and Paradise is in the sky, but only so that Allah confirms their certainty until they are certain of it, as if it is a tangible matter for them.” So he fought until he was killed, because he, may Allah be pleased with him, had been absent from the Battle of Badr. The reason for this is that many of the Companions did not go out at Badr because they had only set out for the caravan of Abu Sufyan, which he had brought from Sham intending to reach Makkah, and they had not set out for fighting. But Allah brought them together with their enemy without an appointment. He, may Allah be pleased with him, was absent because they were not ordered to go out for the expedition; rather, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Whoever wishes to go out with us, let him go out.” So those who went out went out, and those who stayed behind stayed behind. But he, may Allah be pleased with him, said when he was absent from this expedition, the Battle of Badr: “If Allah lets me witness a scene,” meaning an expedition in the path of Allah, “He will surely see from me what I do.” Then he advanced, struggled, fought, and fought until he was killed. They found on his body some eighty or some ninety wounds, which indicates that he had taken risks and penetrated the ranks of the mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah). Only his sister recognized him by his finger, may Allah be pleased with him and grant him satisfaction. And as he was going, he said: “O Allah, I seek Your pardon for what these people did,” meaning his companions who were routed in the Battle of Uhud, “and I disavow You of what these people did,” meaning the mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah). These stories and their like clearly indicate that Allah chose for His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the best of creation, and that it is the truth of his saying (peace and blessings be upon him and his family): “The best of people are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them.” We ask Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) to bring us and you to the stations of the martyrs and to gather us with them in the Gardens of Bliss.
