Continuation of the explanation of the hadith of Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with them both): (… what was between you and Hudhayfah? Then Salman said: “And man was indeed hasty”)

The Shaykh: He said: “O Abu 'Abdullah” — the kunyah of Salman al-Farisi is Abu 'Abdullah — “What was between you and Hudhayfah?” Abu Qirrah did not wait for Salman to enter his house and sit down from the burdens of his work; rather, he rushed to him immediately upon meeting him on the road. He said to him: “What was between you and Hudhayfah?” He said: “Salman: [Al-Isra 17:11]”, meaning he rushed to him with this noble verse to draw his attention to the fact that he is very hasty. Be patient with us for a little so we can go to the house, calm down, and talk. He said: Salman says: [Al-Isra 17:11]. “So they set out until they reached Salman’s house. Salman entered the house and said: ‘Peace be upon you.’” This is Islamic etiquette that many Muslims today still maintain, and praise be to Allah, but most of them have neglected it, and it has become forgotten among them. One of them enters the house and says “good evening” and “good morning,” but the phrase “Peace be upon you” is maintained by few of them, especially when he enters upon his wife, as if his wife does not deserve the greeting, or when he meets his son in the house, as if he does not deserve the greeting. No, it is obligatory to greet both the young and the old. And if there are etiquettes in giving the greeting , all of this will come in the chapters of this book, if Allah wills.
The point is that when Salman entered his house, he gave the greeting; that is, to those inside, his family and his wife who was mentioned earlier. He said: “Peace be upon you.” Then he gave permission to Abu Qirrah to enter after he had entered, meaning he took the path of giving permission to Abu Qirrah to enter. “He entered, and there was a mat placed at the door, and at its head were bricks, and a saddle .” The purpose of this phrase is that Abu Qirrah is describing Salman’s humble house. What did he see? He did not see beds, nor carpets, nor chairs, nor curtains. Rather, he saw a mat, meaning an ordinary rug, and he saw bricks, meaning clay bricks, the well-known type, and a saddle, which is what is placed on a beast of burden, like a saddle and the like. So Salman said to Abu Qirrah: “Sit on the bed of your mistress, the one with the mat.” He is telling him: Sit on the bed of your mistress, meaning the one who was his slave and whom he married, who prepares for herself; that is, she makes it for herself with her own hands.
