Explanation of the hadith of Abu Salama (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: (I came to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, and he was a friend of mine, and I said

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He narrates with his authentic chain from Abu Salama, who said: I came to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, and he was a friend of mine, and I said: Will you not go out with us to the palm grove? So he went out, and he was wearing a cloak of his.
The hadith ends with this amount. A questioner might ask: What is the purpose and what is the wisdom of the author citing this hadith, which contains nothing but Abu Sa'id al-Khudri going out with his friend and companion, Abu Salama, to the farm, meaning to the palm trees? What is there in this report? It appears to me, and Allah knows best, that the author is pointing to the permissibility of taking up what a Muslim uses to earn his livelihood, such as crops and palm trees, in this chapter he established, which is "Going Out to the Farm." Therefore, he cited this hadith, which included the noble Companion, Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, going out to his palm trees and his farm, which he takes as a means to his livelihood. It may be asked: How do you reconcile what this report indicates regarding the permissibility of taking up a farm, meaning a profession, whether it is planting palm trees or other trees or any other profession, with the famous hadith, which is the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
Do not take to the estate, such that you become desirous of the world.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2328
? It may appear that this hadith, which is traced to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), contradicts engaging in the profession of farming to earn a livelihood, as indicated by the author's chapter heading "Going Out to the Farm" and his evidence for it with the report of Abu Salama with his friend Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, the famous Companion who went out with his companion to the palm trees. How do you reconcile this report with the prohibition of the Messenger (peace be upon him) regarding taking up a farm
Do not take to the estate, such that you become desirous of the world.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2328
?
The answer, as it appears to me and Allah knows best, is that the prohibition of taking up a farm is like his saying (peace be upon him) in another hadith:
When you enter into the inah transaction, hold the tails of oxen, are pleased with agriculture, and give up conducting jihad (struggle in the way of Allah). Allah will make disgrace prevail over you, and will not withdraw it until you return to your original religion.
Sunan Abi Dawud 3462
This last hadith explains the hadith before it:
Do not take to the estate, such that you become desirous of the world.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2328
The way of explanation is that we understand the hadith as follows: Do not take up a farm in such a way that it distracts you from performing what Allah has made obligatory upon you, the duties and rights, the most prominent of which is jihad in the cause of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). This taking up that leads to neglecting what is obligatory upon the Muslim, whatever that obligation may be, is what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited, or this is what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) meant by his saying:
Do not take to the estate, such that you become desirous of the world.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2328
Meaning: Do not take up a farm and then rush to it and be concerned with it to the extent that it diverts you from performing what Allah has made obligatory upon you. This is what is prohibited. And in this meaning as well, another hadith is explained, which is confusing to many people, and indeed some German Orientalists have taken it as a point of attack against Muslims, or even against their religion. That hadith is what al-Bukhari narrated in his "Sahih": that he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a plow, meaning the harrow that cuts the earth for planting, and he saw a plow in a field or in a palm grove, and he said (peace be upon him): ما دخل هذا بيت قوم إلا ذلُّوا There is no house in which these equipment enters except that Allah will cause humiliation to enter it.Sahih al-Bukhari 2321 or as he (peace be upon him) said. So some German Orientalists took this hadith and said: This is Islam; it wants Muslims not to work for their worldly life. It makes taking up the plow, meaning the tool of war, a cause of humiliation. How do you boast of this Islam and say that Islam commands work and commands work, until some people exaggerate by narrating a hadith that has no basis, in order to show that Islam encourages work to an extreme degree? They say: He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: اعمَلْ لدنياك كأنَّك تعيش أبدًا ، واعمل لآخرتك كأنَّك تموت غدًا Work for your worldly life as if you will live forever, and work for your Hereafter as if you will die tomorrow This hadith has no basis. We must know this so that we do not attribute to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) what he did not say, because he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: من قال عليَّ ما لم أقل فليتبوَّأ مقعده من النار Whoever says something about me that I did not say, let him take his place in Hell.Musnad Ahmad 469 And Islam does not need to show its perfection and excellence over people with such a weak hadith that has no basis. Recently, some hadiths have passed by us that encourage the Muslim to do good, and the Messenger (peace be upon him) varied his style in doing good, until he mentioned from that: أن تعين أخرق To help a clumsy person. And we explained the fool who has no profession or craft; you help him with your craft. Islam is more noble and higher than needing to prove a type of its perfection, such as encouraging people to work in order to keep their hands from people and to be the upper hand.
