The Shaykh : Then he narrated another hadith from another Companion with the same meaning. This Companion is Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him). He narrated it with his authentic chain from him, saying:
heard a man praise another man and he was using exaggeration in his praise of him. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "You have destroyed - or broken - the man's back." سمع النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - يومًا رجلًا يُثني على رجل ويُطريه ، فقال النبي - صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم - أهلكتم أو قطعتم عنق الرجل
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 334
. This is the same meaning as the previous hadith and does not require additional words.
Have you killed him or cut off his neck? أهلكتم أو قطعتم عنق الرجل
Meaning: By your praise of him and your eulogizing him to his face. The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) adopted this Prophetic etiquette and followed his path in disapproving of those they heard praising others.
