What is the ruling on wearing white gold, which is originally 18-karat gold but has been altered to become white?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. There is in the market what is known as white gold. It is gold of 18-karat, meaning a mixture of gold and another metal composed of tin and copper. However, during the melting process in a certain way, its color becomes white. Is it permissible to wear rings and bracelets made of it alone? It is known that diamonds are set on it, and it is then called a diamond ring or a diamond necklace. Is it permissible to wear it in this case or not?
Answer: Diamonds, as a precious stone, have no relation to the question, because wearing them is permissible. Therefore, let us limit our discussion to red and white gold, as long as the question clarifies that this white gold is red gold of 18-karat, to which other chemical substances are added, making it white and shiny!
Answer: The criterion is the original substance of the metal that a person wants to wear. If it is, as stated in the question, 18-karat gold, then wearing it is not permissible, even if its color is changed, because the criterion is the reality of the thing, not the change of its appearance. Its example is like silver, which is lawful for men, let alone women. If it is coated with a permissible substance—I do not say coated with gold, because that is a separate matter for us—but coated with a permissible dye, this is what came in the Sunnah. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) admonished some of his wives when he saw something of gold in their ears and said:
If you had made that out of silver and coated it with saffron لو أنَّكنَّ جعلتنَّ ذلك من الفضة وطليتموه بالزعفران
. It would then become like gold. Saffron is a color that is used, and its color is like gold, red. So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no harm in coating jewelry with a permissible yellow substance that makes it look like gold. But it is not so if we take a silver bracelet, which is permissible, and coat it with gold, because in that case it would appear in a form that requires the wearer to apologize to people, saying, "My brother, this is not gold, it is a coating." And who among the people would believe it, whether those who are informed or those who are not? Because when this type is worn, everyone wears a gold bracelet and knows that when he is asked by the good, righteous people, he will say, "This is silver, but it is coated with gold." Therefore, from the perspective of blocking the means to harm and from the perspective of
Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt. دَعْ ما يريبك إلى ما لا يريبك
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5711Sahih (Darussalam)
, we say that one does not wear a permissible metal with a metal, even a small amount, that is not permissible to wear. However, if a person is between himself and his Lord, or between himself and his wife, and this coating is not heavy in weight such that zakah becomes obligatory upon him, then there is no harm in it. But displaying it before people, whether men or women, then what we said applies to him regarding the violation of
Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt. دَعْ ما يريبك إلى ما لا يريبك
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5711Sahih (Darussalam)
.
In summary: The ring currently known as a silver ring, which is actually white gold. If it is platinum, it is permissible. But if it is, as stated in the question, originally 18-karat gold or other, but manufactured to become white, then one looks at its origin. Its origin is gold, and this is forbidden for women, let alone men, regarding the ring.
