Wearing white gold by men
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 21867 )
Q: The use of what is called white gold has spread among some people, especially men,the use of what is called white gold, and watches, rings, pens, and similar items are made from it. After asking the shop owners and the goldsmiths, they informed us that white gold is the well-known yellow gold, with a specific substance added to it, estimated at about 5 to 10%, to change its color from yellow to white, or to other colors, making it resemble other metals. Its use has become widespread recently, and its ruling has become confused for many people. We ask your Eminence to clarify the ruling on its use. May Allah reward you, and may Allah reward you for Islam
and the Muslims with all good.
A: If the situation is as described, then when gold is mixed with other substances, it does not escape its rulings regarding the prohibition of exchanging it for its own kind in unequal amounts, and the obligation of immediate exchange in the meeting place, whether it is sold for its own kind, for silver, or for paper currency. It is also forbidden for men to wear it, and forbidden to make vessels from it. Calling it white gold does not exempt it from these rulings. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
