Explanation of "The Chapter on a Man Kissing a Young Girl," and beneath it is the report of Makhramah ibn Bukayr from his father

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He said: "The Chapter on a Man Kissing a Young Girl."
So here, naturally, the young girl is excluded from the category of the older girl; therefore, it is not permissible for a non-mahram man to kiss an older girl. And what is the dividing line between a young girl and an older girl? Without a doubt, this is known by looking at her. If the girl is young in age, for example, but is beautiful in appearance and full-bodied, some souls may be drawn to her; in that case, it is not permissible for a stranger to approach her to kiss her. This is because kissing a young girl falls under the previously mentioned chapter in general:
He is not one of us who does not have mercy on our young ليس منَّا مَن لم يرحَمْ صغيرنا
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1919Hasan (Darussalam)
, and under the specific chapter regarding the story of al-Husayn. We are now in another story about some of the Companions, where one of them kissed a young girl. This kiss is a kiss of mercy. If there is a fear that this kiss will turn into lust, then it is not permissible. Here, the author narrates under "The Chapter on a Man Kissing a Young Girl" from Bukayr, the father of Makhramah, that he saw 'Abd Allah ibn Ja'far kissing Zaynab bint 'Umar ibn Abi Salamah, and she was two years old or about that age. So she is a young girl, and she is a non-mahram to 'Abd Allah ibn Ja'far, because she is the daughter of 'Umar ibn Abi Salamah.
This 'Abd Allah ibn Ja'far is a young Companion, and he is 'Abd Allah ibn Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, 'Abd Allah ibn Ja'far al-Tayyar, who was martyred in the Battle of Mu'tah. He died in a state of major ritual impurity, so the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the angels carrying him and washing him, and he saw him in Paradise flying with two wings; therefore, his father, Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, was called al-Tayyar. His son, this 'Abd Allah ibn Ja'far, is the one who was seen kissing that young girl, the two-year-old. And 'Abd Allah ibn Ja'far was among the most noble and generous of the Arabs among the Companions; he is cited as an example of generosity and nobility, and he has many stories regarding that.
So this report from this Companion, the son of a Companion, regarding his kissing a young girl who is a non-mahram to him, also clarifies that this kiss is a kiss of mercy for the child. So this kiss is a kiss of mercy and a kiss of compassion. Is it permissible for a man to kiss a man? The answer is no; based on the previous hadith, the hadith of Anas, which says: "Do we kiss one another?" He said:
No. لا
. "Do we embrace one another?" He said:
No. لا
. Similarly, it is not permissible for a man to kiss a man in any case; there is no difference in that between travel and residence. And if this is not permissible, then it is even more so not permissible for women to kiss one another. This is a trial that all women have been afflicted with. Am I not right?! Therefore, you must strive against yourselves and all of you must abandon this habit. A woman should never kiss a woman; because a man does not kiss a man. "Do we kiss one another?" He said:
No. لا
. So a woman does not kiss another woman; because the kiss that was mentioned is a kiss of mercy, a kiss of compassion for the child. As for a kiss of greeting; no. In the previous hadith of Anas: "When one of us meets his brother, does he kiss him?"
No. لا
. "Does he embrace him?"
No. لا
. "Does he hold him tightly?"
No. لا
. "Does he bow to him?"
No. لا
. "Does he shake his hand?" He said:
Yes نعم
.
So handshaking is the proper conduct in greeting in Islam, along with, of course, the words: "Peace be upon you." As for a man kissing a man, or a woman kissing a woman; this is not part of Islamic etiquette in any way. And women, in particular, who claim that they want to adhere to the Book and the Sunnah, must fight this habit in two ways. The first, which is more deserving and preferable, is for them to do so with one another. The other is to spread and broadcast that whenever one sees another woman kissing a woman, she should say: "My sister, this is not found in the Book." Therefore, I told you, and you must memorize this hadith of Anas: "Do we kiss one another?" He said:
No. لا
.
