Explaining the relevance of al-Bukhari’s inclusion of al-Hasan’s report: “If you can, do not look at the hair of any of your female relatives” under the chapter

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Here, Imam al-Bukhari cited al-Hasan’s report in the chapter “A man kissing a young girl.” We mentioned in the previous lesson what concerns a man kissing a young girl, and we commented on it as Allah has made pleasing. Now, here we do not find any mention of a kiss in al-Hasan’s report, so what is the connection of al-Hasan’s report to the chapter, since it does not mention a man kissing a young girl as mentioned in the previous report? The answer is that al-Hasan al-Basri permitted looking at the hair of a young girl because that usually leads to playing with her and being affectionate with her, and that may also lead to touching her hair and kissing her, as we passed with us in the previous lesson regarding Bakir, who saw 'Abdullah ibn Ja'far kissing Zaynab bint 'Umar ibn Abi al-Saltamah, who was two years old or so. She is a small child, and there is no harm in a man who is not her relative kissing her, because this kiss is a kiss of mercy, affection, and love, not a kiss of desire, as we explained in the previous lesson.
