Continuation of the explanation of the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): (

The Shaykh : And with Abu al-Tayhan was Umm al-Tayhan, a righteous and intelligent woman. Many women are obedient and righteous, but few of them are intelligent, prudent, and possessors of sound opinion. And among this few, as this hadith indicates, is the wife of this Abu al-Tayhan. When she heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordering her husband to treat this slave well, what did she say to her husband? She said: "You will not reach what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding him unless you free him." Meaning, O Abu al-Tayhan, you will not be able to fulfill this will that the Messenger (peace be upon him) enjoined upon you regarding this slave, where he said:
So treat him with kindness فاستوصِ به خيرًا
You will not reach the fulfillment of this will regarding this slave except by freeing him for the face of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). This is the opinion of a woman, and it is a great and very prudent opinion. And the man was undoubtedly magnanimous and understanding with his wife, and this is the constant state of righteous husbands, always and forever. Therefore, he answered immediately, saying:
Then he is a freed man فهو عتيق
And here is a lesson, and it is a profound lesson, which indicates to us that the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), at the time they felt the need for something, they would quickly give it away for the face of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). And this is among the meanings of asceticism in this world. But true asceticism is that when this world comes with its lawful things, not its unlawful ones, when it comes with its lawful things and turns toward the righteous man, it does not enslave him or make him a slave. He was the owner of it, and it was not the owner of him. He was the one who disposed of it, and it was not the one that disposed of him. This is pure asceticism. Therefore, we find that when the Messenger (peace be upon him) asked this Abu al-Tayhan, "Do you have a servant who can manage the service of the house?" he said, "No." When the servant came and became in his possession, but the Messenger (peace be upon him) said to him:
Treat him with kindness استوصِ به خيرًا
His righteous wife reminded him that he would not be able to fulfill the will of the Messenger (peace be upon him) regarding this slave in a comprehensive and sincere manner except by freeing him. So he quickly said: "Then he is a freed man." So what did he benefit from in terms of enjoying the life of this world from this slave that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) presented to Abu al-Tayhan? As for the life of this world, he did not benefit anything, because he barely entered his ownership before he freed him for the face of his Lord. Thus are the true Muslim men, whom this world does not enslave. And thus the Muslim must be: if he is rich, he does not enslave himself to this wealth and this fortune. Rather, this wealth is in his hand so that he can use it to increase his drawing near to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), so that the money does not become a burden upon him in the Hereafter, but rather becomes a reward for him. On this occasion, on the occasion that the lady Umm al-Tayhan advised her husband to free this slave ... we mention that in this woman there is something else of perfection, because this slave would have undertaken the burden of serving her house at a time when she was undertaking this service. If some women today were granted such a slave to serve them, they would not part with him except with their souls. But she was the opposite of that; she advised the master to hasten to free this slave, even though this was not in her interest, because the slave would serve the house instead of the wife serving the house. So in addition to the soundness of her intellect, it also indicates that she was truly ascetic in this world and desirous of what is with Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), because she knew that if a Muslim frees a slave for the face of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), Allah frees every member of his body, member by member, from the Fire. And this is an indication that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) frees the one who frees the slave from the Fire, making him forbidden to the Fire. She knew this truth, and although the slave was the property of the husband, she knew at the same time that whoever points to good is like its doer. She was the one who directed her husband to hasten to carry out the command of the Messenger (peace be upon him) regarding him, which is his saying:
So treat him with kindness فاستوصِ به خيرًا
So she, in doing so, turned away from enjoying the benefit of this slave's service for her, out of her eagerness also to have like what her husband has of reward for this slave. And what is this reward except that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) frees him from the Fire? And since the one who points to good is like its doer, she also hoped from her Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He) that He would free her from the Fire in exchange for her advising her husband to free the slave, for by his freeing him, Allah frees him from the Fire.
