Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author said in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*: “Chapter on the Virtue of Freeing Slaves”. Freeing slaves means liberating slaves; that is, there is a person who is enslaved, and another person comes and frees him and liberates him seeking the face of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). This is among the best of deeds. Allah the Exalted said:
(11) But he has not broken through the difficult pass. (12) And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? (13) It is the freeing of a slave (14) Or feeding on a day of severe hunger (15) An orphan of near relationship (16) Or a needy person in misery (17) And then being among those who believed فلا اقتحم العقبة * وما أدراك ما العقبة * فك رقبة * أو إطعام في يوم ذي مسغبة * يتيمًا ذا مقربة * أو مسكينًا ذا متربة * ثم كان من الذين آمنوا
[Al-Balad 90:11-17]
. “Crossing the barrier” means ascending it with difficulty, and the barrier is the elevated path. It is known that crossing barriers is difficult and arduous. Likewise, freeing slaves is difficult for souls because it involves removing the slave from his master’s ownership, which is arduous. His saying:
Freeing a slave فك رقبة
includes freeing slaves and includes releasing a captive from the enemy, for this is part of freeing slaves. Thus, in the verse is evidence of the virtue of freeing slaves. Then the author mentioned what is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
That whoever frees a slave, Allah will free for every part of his body أن من أعتق عبدًا أعتق الله بكل عضو منه
meaning: from the freed slave.
a part of his body عضوًا منه
meaning: from the one who freed him.
from the Fire من النار
even the private part for the private part. This means: if you free a slave, Allah will free your entire body from the Fire, because you freed this slave from slavery, so Allah the Exalted will free you from the Fire.
