Explaining the importance of rectifying the outward appearance and that it is the indicator of the inward state.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We would like to remind the sisters present now that we call upon women and men to act in accordance with the Book and the Sunnah, especially in matters that are apparent, for the hidden, internal matters are known only to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). The apparent matters are those by which we are commanded to judge, while the knowledge of the internal matters is with Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). However, among the wisdom of the wise Lawgiver making it obligatory upon all Muslims, men and women, to advise one another in what is apparent to each other, is that rectifying the apparent affects the rectification of the internal. As they say, "The apparent is the title of the internal." If there is any deficiency or corruption in the internal, it appears on the person's exterior, whether he is a man or a woman. Therefore, it is obligatory upon every Muslim man and woman to hasten to rectify his or her exterior and not to be deluded, as many people say, that his heart is good or that his heart is righteous, for it is said: "Whatever disposition a man has, even if he thinks it is hidden from people, he will know it." If his heart is good, this good heart will overflow with good, righteous deeds. The Messenger (peace be upon him) pointed to this reality when he said:
Indeed, the lawful is clear, and the forbidden is clear, and between them are matters of doubt about which many people do not know. So whoever avoids the doubtful matters has protected his religion and his honor. And indeed, every king has a protected area, and indeed, the protected area of Allah is His prohibitions. And indeed, whoever encroaches around the protected area is likely to fall into it. And indeed, in the body there is a morsel of flesh; if it is sound, the whole body is sound, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt; and it is the heart.
Therefore, the heart must be rectified by rectifying the apparent matters, for it is not possible to rectify the heart by corrupting the apparent matters. Therefore, to confirm what we have mentioned, our Messenger (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him) said:
Indeed, Allah does not look at your forms, nor at your bodies, nor at your wealth, but He looks at your hearts إن الله لا ينظر إلى صوركم ، ولا إلى أجسادكم ، ولا إلى أموالكم ، ولكن ينظر إلى قلوبكم

and your deeds وأعمالكم
He looks at your hearts and your deeds which flow from your hearts; if they are good, they are good, and if they are bad, they are bad. Therefore, we must not be deluded into saying, "By Allah, the criterion is what is in the heart," because if the heart is good, the deeds are good, and vice versa. Exactly as we mentioned in a previous lesson from a medical perspective: if the heart is healthy, the body is healthy, and if the heart is sick, the body is sick, and so on. So, if a person wants to rectify his physical body, he must rectify his physical heart, and if he wants to rectify his spiritual and moral body, he must also rectify his spiritual and moral heart. This is only achieved by following Islam, the Book and the Sunnah, and by not exposing ourselves to what is not permissible, for religion is advice. We mention men and women as an example to clarify my previous statement: young men who imitate women cannot have good hearts, because a good heart beats with good deeds and flows with good deeds. Likewise, women who imitate men; women imitating men occurs in many ways, the most prominent of which is that a woman exposes herself as a man does. For example, a man exposes his face and neck, and may expose his forearms, or more than that, his legs and the like. This is permissible for him, because the 'awrah (part of the body that must be covered) of a man is from the navel to the knee.
