Speaking about rectifying the outward and the inward.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : ... We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our own souls and from the badness of our deeds. Whoever Allah guides, no one can mislead, and whoever He misleads, no one can guide. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
[Ali 'Imran 3:102]
,
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
[An-Nisa 4:1]
,
(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
[Al-Ahzab 33:70-71]
. As for what follows:
Indeed, the best of speech is the speech of Allah, the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the worst of matters are their innovations. Every innovation is a religious innovation, every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire. And after that:
It occurred to me when I sat in this gathering of yours to remind you of a matter that is considered an important principle in Islam, one to which a etiquette of scholarly gatherings is linked. That principle is that Islam, by virtue of its greatness and the breadth of its guidance and education for its believing followers, has commanded these Muslims to care for the rectification of their outward appearance just as it commanded the rectification of their inward selves. There are many hadiths that enumerate major concepts which converge on a single reality: that a Muslim must care for the rectification of his outward appearance just as he cares for the rectification of his inward self, and that he should not say, as some ignorant or deviant people say, that what matters is the inward and not the outward. The truth is that this statement is partly true and partly false. Islam cares for the rectification of the inward, but it also commands the rectification of the outward. We find this reality, as I hinted at earlier, scattered throughout many authentic hadiths.
