The reason for the revelation of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Take your adornment at every mosque.”

The Shaykh : And so the Sunnah came to counter the call of Satan. For example, the Sunnah first clarified in the Qur'an: [Al-A'raf 7:31] This verse was revealed specifically regarding the circumambulation of the Ka'bah by men and women in a state of nudity. It was revealed to abolish this pre-Islamic custom in which they deviated from, among other things, the religion of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). So our Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He) said in the Qur'an: [Al-A'raf 7:31] meaning: Cover your private parts when you perform tawaf and when you enter any of the mosques of Allah on earth. Thus, Islam came to rebuke the footsteps of Satan among human beings when he whispered to them to strip off their clothes, claiming that they were clothes in which they had disobeyed Allah. What would they do with their hearts in which they had disobeyed Allah? It was obligatory for them to purify these hearts from the filth, idols, and statues that had settled in them and which they worshipped besides Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). Therefore, it is part of the Sunnah that when a Muslim intends to perform Hajj to the House of Allah, he should purify himself from the filth, sins, and transgressions that have settled in his heart and repent to his Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He) if he wants his Hajj to be an accepted and blessed Hajj. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Thus, the Messenger (peace be upon him) ordered that the important matter, before anything else and before changing clothes, is for a person to purify himself, to purify himself from his sins and transgressions, so that when he performs Hajj to the House of his Lord, he returns as pure as the day his mother gave birth to him, free from his sins. After that, the Messenger (peace be upon him) ordered, in the second place, that every pilgrim who enters the state of ihram for Hajj to the House of Allah should remove his clothes, even if they are clean and even if he has not committed any sins while wearing them. He ordered him to remove them and wear two garments: an izar and a rida, like a bath towel, one piece on the upper part of his body and the other piece on the lower part of his body. This is part of the complete preparation for going to the House of Allah. The opposite of this is what the deviators from the religion of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) did; they circumambulated the Ka'bah naked after placing those idols on its back. This is part of the deviation that affected the religion of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), causing it to become crooked from the path of tawhid and uprightness. So Allah sent Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to straighten the crooked religion. Therefore, we must understand this phrase: “to straighten” means to correct. The religion is the religion of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), which is not crooked by nature, but crookedness befall it by the deviations that the misguiders introduced into it, as we mentioned, such as placing idols and circumambulating the Ka'bah naked. Thus, the pure religion of Ibrahim became a crooked religion. Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) did not take His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to Himself until He removed the idols from the Ka'bah. That was on the day of the Conquest of Mecca, when he entered it as a conqueror, victorious and forgiven. He would strike with the sheath of his sword, holding a stick in his hand (peace and blessings be upon him), at every idol and recite the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Isra 17:81] So the idols fell one after another until no idol remained on the back of the Ka'bah to be worshipped besides Allah (Exalted is He), and worship became for Allah alone, with no partner for Him.
