Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Do you have a question?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Please go ahead.

The questioner : Regarding the hadith of the shade:
There are seven whom Allah will shade in His shade on the day on which there is no shade except His shade سبعةٌ يظلهم الله في ظله يوم لا ظل إلا ظله
Muwatta Malik 51:14
Do we affirm the attribute of shade for Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He)?

The Shaykh : The famous hadith; the questioner asks about the famous hadith agreed upon by the two Shaykhs:
There are seven whom Allah will shade in His shade on the day on which there is no shade except His shade: a just imam, a youth who grows up worshipping Allah سبعة يظلهم الله تحت ظله يوم لا ظل إلا ظله، إمام عادل وشاب نشأ في طاعة الله
Muwatta Malik 51:14
and so on. He says: Do we affirm the shade as an attribute of Allah?
We say: I do not believe that, especially since in some narrations of this hadith it is:
Allah will shade him on the Day of Judgement under His Throne, a Day in which there is no shade except His shade. يظلهم الله تحت ظل عرشه يوم لا ظل إلا ظله
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1306Sahih (Darussalam)
, so this is not one of the attributes of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
