We ask you, Your Eminence, to clarify the following rulings regarding the eclipse: By what does one catch up the eclipse prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Regarding the topic of the eclipse prayer: A questioner says: Your Eminence, we ask you to clarify the following rulings regarding the eclipse:
By what does one catch up the eclipse prayer?
Is the eclipse sermon prescribed for everyone?
Is the imam to stand or sit?
And there are other points, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : One catches up a rak'ah in the eclipse prayer by catching up the first bowing. For example, if you come and the imam has already bowed the first bowing, then you enter with him while he is reciting, and then he bows the second time, that rak'ah has been missed by you, because the imam bowed how many times? How many times did the imam bow? He bowed twice. And you have now bowed only once, so you have missed the rak'ah. The rule is: whenever you enter with the imam after the first bowing of a rak'ah, you have missed that rak'ah. Now, if you stand to make it up, do you pray the makeup with one bowing or two bowings? With two bowings. Based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
and pray whatever you get (with the people) and complete the rest which you have missed ما أدركتم فصلوا وما فاتكم فأتموا
Sahih al-Bukhari 635
And in another wording:
So make up what you missed فاقضوا
. As for the second point?

The questioner : Is the sermon prescribed?

The Shaykh : Is the sermon prescribed in it for everyone? The answer: Whoever is capable of guiding the people, let him speak. If the imam is not capable of preaching to the people and guiding them, one of the congregation who is capable of doing so should stand and preach to the people.
As for whether he preaches while standing? Yes, he preaches while standing, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) preached in the eclipse prayer while standing. This clearly indicates that the sermon in it is prescribed and is not one of the incidental sermons. Rather, it is a fixed sermon; whenever the eclipse prayer is performed, he preaches after it. But this is for whoever is capable. As for one who does not know, he does not speak. If he does not know, he looks to one of the students of knowledge in the mosque and asks him to speak.
