Is it permissible to connect the mustache to the beard?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is connecting the mustache to the beard part of the Sunnah?

The Shaykh : Connecting the mustache to the beard?

The questioner : Connecting, connecting.

The Shaykh : Connecting?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : I mean not shaving it, not cutting it. We do not say it is part of the Sunnah, but it is established from 'Umar ibn al-Khattab that he had two tufts of hair, and when he was angry, he would twist them. And it came in the authentic hadith his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever does not take from his mustache, then he is not from us. من لم يأخذ من شاربه ؛ فليس منَّا
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2761Sahih (Darussalam)
. He did not say: "Whoever does not take his mustache," but rather "whoever does not take from his mustache"; so he is not one of us. And it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in practice:
That a man came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and his mustache had grown long—meaning it extended over his lip—so he ordered (peace and blessings be upon him) that a miswak and a pair of scissors be brought to him. He placed the miswak under the part of the mustache that had grown long and cut it.
. This is a practical explanation from him of his saying (peace be upon him):
Whoever does not take from his mustache من لم يأخذ من شاربه
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2761Sahih (Darussalam)
