Is there a difference between saying: (There is no true object of worship except Allah) and (There is no true object of worship in existence except Allah)?

The questioner: O Shaykh, is there a major difference between:
There is no true object of worship except Allah
and
There is no true object of worship in existence except Allah
?

The Shaykh: There is no difference, because existence is the creation that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) created with His power. There is no difference. But the great difference is between the phrase:
There is no true object of worship except Allah
and
There is no object of worship except Allah
. That is the difference. As for the issue of mentioning "in existence" or not mentioning it, nothing follows from it.
But some authors—I read a treatise there in Damascus by one of the shaykhs of the Shadhiliyyah order, and his name isThe Shaykh : Muhammad al-Maghribi, as I read another treatise by some of the Tabligh group—they interpreted this good word:
There is no god but Allah.
Sunan Abi Dawud 3117Sahih (Al-Albani)
as
There is no object of worship except Allah
. This is the doctrine of the unity of existence; because all the objects of worship today are worshipped besides Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). So if they apply to them:
There is no object of worship except Allah
, that means these objects of worship are Allah!! But when the Muslim says—as the people of knowledge said:
There is no true object of worship except Allah
—then he denies the gods that are worshipped besides Allah. This is the meaning of the saying:
There is no god but Allah.
Sunan Abi Dawud 3117Sahih (Al-Albani)
. So they established, by the word of tawhid, the oneness of lordship. This is the tawhid that is obligatory for every true believer, but it alone does not save from shirk and disbelief. Because the polytheists used to believe that there is no Creator except Allah, no Provider except Allah. Therefore, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) reported their saying:
And if you asked them, "Who created the heavens and earth?" they would surely say, "Allah."
[Luqman 31:25]
. But in another verse:
when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant
[As-Saffat 37:35]
. Why? Because in this good word is the denial of all their objects of worship except Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). And so they denied the oneness of worship, and disbelieved in Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and others.
