The questioner : I have a recording of Shaykh Hashim Muhammad Ali in which he mentions a hadith regarding the response to supplication and the certainty that a person should have in the response to supplication. He mentions a hadith of Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) He did not mention who narrated the hadith, so we want to know.
The Shaykh : The hadith was narrated by Ibn al-Sunni in *Amal al-Laylah wa al-Nahar* (The Deeds of the Night and the Day).
The questioner : Yes
The Shaykh : However, in my previous reviews, I found that the hadith is weak; its chain of narration is not authentic.
That he was sitting in a gathering and his companions came to him and said to him, "O Abu al-Darda', your house has caught fire." He said, "No, and it is not fitting for it to catch fire. These are words I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): Whoever says them when evening comes, no harm will touch him until morning, and whoever says them when morning comes, no harm will touch him until evening. They are: O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no deity but You. Upon You I rely, and You are the Lord of the Mighty Throne. What Allah wills comes to be, and what He does not will does not come to be. There is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Great. I know that Allah is able to do all things, and that Allah has encompassed all things with knowledge. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul and from the evil of every creature whose forelock You grasp. Indeed, my Lord is on a straight path. They found that what was around his house had caught fire, and that his house had been saved.
