The Shaykh : There is a third hadith that has no connection to the topic of sustenance and that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, makes the doors of sustenance available to the one who fears Him from where he does not expect, but it has a connection to the fact that whoever fears Allah, Allah makes the mountains available to him and shakes them, simply because he made a sincere supplication, and not like the supplication of the one who eats haram, as you heard in the previous hadith:
Then he mentioned a man who makes a long journey in a dishevelled and dusty state, who stretches out his hands to heaven saying, “My Lord, my Lord,” when his food, drink and clothing are of an unlawful nature, and he is nourished by what is unlawful, and asked how such a one could be given an answer.
Mishkat al-Masabih 2760. On the contrary, if his earnings, food, and drink are halal, and he fears Allah, Mighty and Majestic, in what he does and what he leaves, then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, also makes the mountains available to him and shakes them from their places; if all the people of the earth gathered, they would not be able to shake them. I mean: the story of the three men whose hadith was mentioned in Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim, from the hadith of Abdullah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them both). He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
While three men from before you were walking, when it rained, they took refuge in a cave in a mountain, and a rock from the mountain slid down onto the mouth of their cave and closed over them. So some of them said to the others: O you, look for good deeds you have done for Allah and supplicate to Allah with them, perhaps Allah will open it for you. So one of them stood up and said: O Allah, if You know that I had two old, aged parents and a wife, and I had small children whom I was grazing, so when I returned, I would milk and start with my parents before my children. One day, the trees took me far away, so I returned and it was evening. I milked as I used to and came with the milk, and I found them asleep. I stood over their heads, hating to wake them from their sleep, and hating to give the children drink before them, while the children were crying from hunger at my feet. He said: So that remained my habit and their habit until the dawn appeared. If You, O Allah, know that I did that seeking Your pleasure, then open for us from it an opening through which we can see the sky. So the rock moved a little by the power of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, but they could not get out—to show the miracle in its entirety—until the second man stood up and said: O Allah, if You know that I had a cousin whom I loved as much as men love women, so I asked her for herself, but she refused until I came to her with one hundred dinars. So when I was between her legs, she said: O servant of Allah, fear Allah and do not open the seal except with its right. So I got up from her. If You, O Allah, know that I did that seeking Your pleasure, then open for us from it an opening. So the rock moved a little again. Until the third man stood up and said: O Allah, if You know that I hired a worker for a farq of rice—a measure of rice—so when he finished his work, I offered him his farq, but he was pleased with it—as if he considered the wage small. He said: So I did not stop planting it until I gathered from it a herd of cattle and their herders. Then he came to me—it is mentioned in some hadiths that they were struck by a year of drought—and he remembered that he had a measure of rice with me, so he went to demand it from him. So the employer did nothing but say to him: Go to that herd of cattle and take it. He said: O servant of Allah, fear Allah and do not mock me; I only have a farq of rice with you—and you tell me this whole herd of cattle is the spirit of its market—do not mock me, I only have a farq of rice with you. He said: Go and take it, for that herd of cattle is from that farq. So he went and drove them away. If You, O Allah, know that I did that seeking Your pleasure, then open for us what remains. So Allah opened for them what remained, and they went out walking.
. This is a sign of the signs of the fear of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He. So the Muslims today do not need to expand their wealth by committing what Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has forbidden, but rather they need to fear Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, in what He has commanded them and in what He has forbidden them. And to conclude, I repeat the verse:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
