Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, regarding what he quoted from Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
Three men set out
: meaning three men. The night overtook them, so they entered a cave: meaning to spend the night in it. A cave is what is in a mountain where people enter to spend the night or to take shelter from the sun or the like. So they entered this cave when the night overtook them. A rock rolled down from the mountain until it blocked the entrance of the cave, and they were unable to move it because it was a large rock. So they saw that they should seek nearness to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) with their good deeds. One of them mentioned his complete dutifulness to his parents, the second mentioned his complete chastity, and the third mentioned his scrupulousness and his advice. As for the first, he says:
I had old parents and I never provided my family (wife, children etc.) with milk before them.
Sahih al-Bukhari 2272
: “Family” means, for example, the wife and children, and “property” means, for example, slaves and the like. He had sheep, so he would let them graze, then return at the end of the day and milk the sheep, and give the two old, elderly parents, then give the rest of his family and property. He says:
One day, my search for wood took me far away
He returned and found that his parents had fallen asleep. So he looked: should he give his family and property before his parents? Or should he wait until the parents wake up?
So he preferred this, meaning he remained and held the vessel in his hand until the dawn broke: meaning until the dawn appeared, and he was waiting for his parents to wake up. When they woke up and drank the milk, he gave his family and property. He said:
If I did that for Your Sake only, please relieve us
Sahih al-Bukhari 2272
,
O Allah! If I did that for Your Sake only, please relieve us from the present suffering.
Sahih al-Bukhari 2272
In this is evidence of sincerity to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in deeds, and that sincerity is a major factor in the acceptance of deeds. So Allah accepted this means from him, and the rock moved, but in a way that they were not able to get out of it. He mentioned the rest of the hadith regarding the chaste man, complete in chastity, and the trustworthy man, complete in trustworthiness. And Allah knows best.
The reader: Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and all his Companions. He (may Allah have mercy on him) said, in the context of the hadith of Ibn Umar: "
The second said: O Allah, I had a cousin who was the most beloved of people to me - and in a narration: I loved her as much as men love women - so I wanted to compel her to herself, but she refused me until a year of the years overtook her. So she came to me, and I gave her two hundred and twenty dinars on the condition that she would allow me to be with her, and she did so. So when I was able to reach her - and in a narration: when she sat between my legs - she said: Fear Allah and do not break the seal except with its right. So I turned away from her, and she was the most beloved of people to me, and I left the gold that I had given her. O Allah, if I did that seeking Your Face, then relieve us of what we are in. So the rock moved, but they were not able to get out of it. And the third said: O Allah, I hired workers and gave them their wages, except for one man, who left what was his and went away. So his wage grew until it became a large amount of wealth. So he came to me after a while and said: O servant of Allah, give me my wage. I said: Everything you see is your wage: from camels, cows, sheep, and slaves. He said: O servant of Allah, do not mock me! I said: I am not mocking you. So he took it all and drove it away, and he did not leave anything of it. O Allah, if I did that seeking Your Face, then relieve us of what we are in. So the rock moved and they walked out
