A refutation of the interpretation of those who interpret the existence of Allah as being in every place, such as al-Sha'rawi.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And the other point is that places are not on a single level regarding purity and cleanliness, in terms of elevation and nobility versus filth; rather, one place differs from another. It has come in an authentic hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The best of places are the mosques, and the worst of places are the markets.
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 2:17
. Do you see our Lord, as they express it, existing in every place? Existing in the mosques and existing in the markets? Is it fitting for Allah (Mighty and Majestic), the Most High, the All-Powerful, that He be in the worst of places?!
And it is not only this; in the markets are the houses, and in the houses are the latrines. In the latrine, there are drains and channels that pour into the sea or the valley or something similar. These are all places. In fact, we do not go far in saying that the human belly, full of filth, is a place, as evidenced by the fact that it breathes air, eats food, and drinks beverages; all of this is a place. So is our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) truly in these places, as they claim? That Allah is in every place? How did this come about when Allah says:
Do you feel secure that He who [holds authority] in the heaven
[Al-Mulk 67:16]
, the verse as we mentioned earlier,
The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him
[Al-Ma'arij 70:4]
,
The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him
[Al-Ma'arij 70:4]
. He does not descend upon every place.
Likewise,
To Him ascends good speech, and righteous work raises it
[Fatir 35:10]
. All these texts are completely inactive in the mind of Shaykh al-Sha'rawi; he does not believe in them. And therefore, he took exception to our companion when the Prophetic question was directed to him:
Where is Allah
. He said: I seek refuge in Allah; this is not what is correct to say. Well, if it were asked, what is the answer?
Allah is in every place!
