A woman says to her sons: I have vowed that you will not do such-and-such, but they do it, and she did not specify the vow, so what is required of her?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : This questioner says: She says to her sons: I have vowed that you will not do such-and-such, but they do it, and she did not specify her vow, so what is required of her?

The Shaykh : First: We forbid making vows, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade them and said:
It does not bring good, and it does not avert a decree إنه لا يأتي بخير، وإنه لا يرد قضاءً
So much so that some scholars have forbidden vows, because a person obligates himself to what is not obligatory for him.
Second: Regarding the woman's case, she owes the expiation for an oath, because this vow has the ruling of an oath. So she feeds ten poor people, or clothes them, or frees a slave. If she cannot find the means to do so, she fasts for three consecutive days.
