What did your father do when he learned of your interest in the science of hadith?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Now, regarding the father, did he notice your interest in the science of hadith and such? Did he have a role in it?

The Shaykh : Of course, he had a very negative role, but Allah (Mighty and Majestic) kept me steadfast. What actually happened, and this is among the wisdoms of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in what He decreed for me, namely sitting in his shop and learning his trade, is that we would work and argue. I would argue based on what appeared to me from the Sunnah and hadith, and he would argue based on what he had studied in Istanbul and elsewhere, having spent a long time in that study.

The questioner : Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The questioner : If the mash is served, the lesson is over, my teacher.

The Shaykh : Oh, in the name of Allah.

The questioner : We will postpone the conversation until after breaking the fast.
We had reached, my Shaykh, the point of your argument with your father during work.

The Shaykh : Yes, so we would discuss; I would cite evidence from the hadith and the Sunnah, and he would say: "The madhhab." And when he was fed up with the research, and I was long-suffering in that, add to that that I was a young man and he was a middle-aged man, indeed an old man, so he would say: "The science of hadith is the craft of the bankrupt", -may Allah have mercy on him, and forgive us and him- and so most of our time in the shop was spent arguing. And with the continuation of the study of the Sunnah and hadith, I realized errors that were prevalent and controlling over all the people at that time, including the Shaykhs. I was, for example, the only son among all my brothers who would accompany his father when he went to the mosques.
