What is the ruling on those who carry out suicide operations? Are they considered martyrs?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The second question: What is the ruling on those who carry out suicide operations? Are they considered martyrs?

The Shaykh : For suicide operations to be considered martyrdom, first of all, they must be in the path of Allah, not in the path of what is called today patriotism or defending the land or the like. Martyrdom must be under an Islamic banner led by a Muslim caliph. As for these adventures and risks that occur today, they are as he (peace be upon him) said in the agreed-upon hadith:
The (reward of) deeds, depend upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for the sake of Allah and His Apostle, then his emigration will be considered to be for Allah and His Apostle, and whoever emigrated for the sake of worldly gain or for a woman to marry, then his emigration will be considered to be for what he emigrated for.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6689
.
In short, we do not consider this operation permissible except under an Islamic banner. If we imagine a man among them who intended thereby the Face of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), then it is according to his intention. Yes.
