Reconciling the emergence of poetry from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with the denial in the Qur'an that he is a poet?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : ... ؟

The Shaykh : May Allah bless you. If an unlettered man—an unlettered man, not our Prophet now—has a verse of poetry come out of him as a passing thought, does that make him a poet? Of course not. A poet is one who is skilled in poetry. So what came out of him (peace be upon him) was a passing thought, and that does not make him a poet! Such that it would contradict the verse you mentioned.
