The questioner:
If anyone, prays the dawn prayer in a company, then sits making mention of God till the sun rises, then prays two rak'as, he will have a reward equivalent to that for a hajja * and an ‘ umra .” He reported God’s Messenger as adding, “A perfect one, a perfect one, a perfect one.” من صلى الفجر في جماعة ، ثم قعد يذكر الله حتى تطلع الشمس ، ثم صلى ركعتين ؛ كانت له كأجر حجة وعمرة تامة تامة تامة
Mishkat al-Masabih 971
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, is this prayer the same as the Dhuha prayer, or is it a specific prayer?

The Shaykh: The apparent view—and Allah knows best—since there is no explicit text on the matter, is that it is the Dhuha prayer; because it is not mentioned in all the hadiths that there are two prayers after the sun rises, this one, and then the Dhuha prayer. Rather, this hadith appears to align with the other hadith narrated by Imam Muslim in his Sahih from the hadith of 'Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The prayer of those who are penitent is observed when your weaned camels feel the heat of the sun. صلاة الأوابين حين ترمض الفصال
Sahih Muslim 748a
Al-fisal is the plural of fasil, and a fasil is a young she-camel, where its hoof is not like the hoof of its father and mother; its hoof is fresh and soft. So when it goes out to the gravel or the sand, and the sun has struck it with its heat, it seeks and looks for shade to escape the heat. So when the young camel feels the heat of the scorching ground, that is the best time for the prayer of the repentant. So if we consider this, if we reflect on the previous hadith when the man sits after the Fajr prayer remembering Allah, then he waits until the sun rises beautifully, at that time the heat of the scorching ground begins to intensify, so the young camel does not stay on it, but it takes refuge in the shade. So this prayer, as it appears to us—and Allah knows best—is the Dhuha prayer, regarding whose time he (peace be upon him) said:
The prayer of those who are penitent is observed when your weaned camels feel the heat of the sun. صلاة الأوابين حين ترمض الفصال
Sahih Muslim 748a
