How to reconcile the hadith: “The dead person is resurrected in the clothes in which he died,” with the hadith: “People are gathered barefoot and naked”
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : It is reported in a hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: , and it is also reported in another hadith: Sahih Ibn Hibban 64:228; how do we reconcile the two hadiths?
The Shaykh : There is no contradiction between the two hadiths. His statement (peace be upon him): is a report about the moment of resurrection; so when he comes out of the grave, he is resurrected in the clothes in which he died. As for the gathering, it will be as mentioned in the second hadith: to the end of the hadith. So each hadith is understood in its own context, and there are examples of this. In some verses, it is explicitly stated that there is no questioning in the gathering, while in others, such as His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He): [At-Takathur 102:8], so what is negated in some verses and affirmed in others must not be opposed by taking the negation over the affirmation. Rather, we say that questioning takes place at one time, and there is no questioning at another time. This is the method of reconciling texts that appear to contradict or conflict with each other. And so the answer was, as you heard: resurrection in clothes does not negate the gathering for questioning, and this is a long time, and very long indeed. So the gathering will be as mentioned in the hadiths, naked, while resurrection from the graves will be in the clothes in which the deceased died.

يُحشر الناس حفاةً عراةً غرلًاThe Shaykh : There is no contradiction between the two hadiths. His statement (peace be upon him):
The dead person is resurrected in the clothes in which he died
يُبعث الميت في ثيابه التي مات فيهاBarefoot, naked, and uncircumcised
حفاةً عراةً غرلًاThen you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.
