Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : A man left his wife in the desert for more than a year without a valid religious excuse, and he is only gathering money out of love for this world and boasting. She is now left in the desert with her family, but without a man, for a period of more than seven months, just so he can gather money. Is such an action permissible or not? We ask for a quick response. May Allah guide you?

The Shaykh : In truth, this action is foolishness on the part of this man, because one of the most important things a person gathers in this world is the enjoyment of satisfying his desires. Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, began by mentioning women before the loaded camels, saying:
Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land
[Ali 'Imran 3:14]
So I do not know how this man can endure this period away from his family for the sake of gathering this world, which is of no benefit to him if he does not spend it in attaining his pleasure. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
This world is a temporary enjoyment, and the best of its enjoyments is the righteous woman. الدنيا متاع وخير متاعها المرأة الصالحة
Then, if she is satisfied with his action, there is no sin on him, because the right belongs to her.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Unless there is a fear in his neglecting her that she might be led astray or that someone might be led astray by her, in which case he must take care of his family. And if she demands his presence and is not satisfied with this long absence, he must fulfill her right and not abandon her through this travel.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
