Exposing the Doubt of Those Who Say: Unshaped Gold—That Is, Cut Gold—Does Not Exist in Reality and Is Not Manufactured!

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, how is shaped gold obtained?

The Shaykh : How?

The questioner : How is shaped gold obtained? Shaped gold?

The Shaykh : What is the matter with it?

The questioner : I mean, how is this obtained? It is not obtained; it does not exist!

Another questioner : He means it is not manufactured.

The questioner : It is not manufactured!

Another questioner : He means it is not manufactured.

The questioner : Unshaped gold is not made!

Another questioner : I mean, he understands that adornment is only through a ring or a bracelet or something similar to shaped gold, so it is not possible to... except with what is shaped.

The Shaykh : This is what your knowledge has encompassed—and praise be to Allah—you are not to be blamed for it, because it is not part of the knowledge...
The Shaykh laughs—may Allah have mercy on him— الشيخ يضحك - رحمه الله -
.

The questioner : It exists, this...

The Shaykh : If you please, do you not imagine that there are gold buttons?

The questioner : It exists in this.

The Shaykh : It exists?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : How did you say: "Do you not imagine"?

The questioner : I do not mean these... and earrings and...

The Shaykh : When we say: ... my intention is that in reality, gold is of two types: You say: It is not imaginable except that it is shaped.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Okay, do you imagine the problem with gold?

The questioner : He.

The Shaykh : Okay, what did you not imagine?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : This is for people like us, the dervishes, but if... shapes and colors... you do not imagine—also? So the types of cut gold compared to what is shaped are more than what you know of the shaped.

The questioner : It is not a matter of this, it is a matter of...

Another questioner : He means that women do not imagine, we women wear...

The questioner: Yes.

Another questioner : And she is not satisfied except with...

The questioner : This existing one, I mean, is the prevalent one.
The questioner: The fashion now is coming out... some shapes are tailored.

The Shaykh : I am telling him, I am telling him I do not imagine, then he imagines.

The questioner : This is rare, rare.

The Shaykh : Contrary to the issue, your speech is that you observe the reality of the matters of scholars and muftis.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : This reality... is based on an established idea, but if this established idea is reversed with them, it will be reversed...; right or not?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : I mean, some Egyptians who claim knowledge in the present age permit men to wear gold rings, and they argue with the generality of His saying—Exalted is He—:
Say, "Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has produced for His servants and the good [lawful] things of provision?" Say, "They are for those who believe during the worldly life قُلْ مَنْ حَرَّمَ زِينَةَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّتِي أَخْرَجَ لِعِبَادِهِ وَٱلطَّيِّبَٰتِ مِنَ ٱلرِّزْقِ قُلْ هِيَ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ فِي ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا
[Al-A'raf 7:32]
to the end of the verse, ... the word you prohibit only comes through the hadiths prohibiting gold, quickly or the gold ring specifically... it is not their concern in scientific research, but rather these are ahad hadiths that we must not oppose the decisive text of the Qur'an with them, to the end of this strange philosophy from us. If you say to them: Why do you permit this? They bring you this answer. Now consider the witness from the example: If one of them is convinced that the gold ring is forbidden for men; what will he do? He will change the method of use, so instead of taking a gold ring, he will take a silver ring, clear?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : So; you do not look at the reality, that this reality has no other as you imagined just now, you look at this reality: is it in accordance with the Shari'ah or not? If it is in accordance with the Shari'ah, it is permissible, there is no discussion, and if it is not in accordance with the Shari'ah, what does your saying that this does not exist benefit? In the Syrian expression: "Amr does not come with any other"; because this is forbidden, but you investigate the matter with its Shari'ah evidence; if you are convinced that this reality is contrary to the Shari'ah, it is obligatory to turn away from it, as the Salaf did when wine was forbidden to them...
So will you not desist? فهل أنتم منتهون
[Al-Ma'idah 5:91]
? They said: We are done, O Lord.
The Shaykh: This is how they understood it, but that the texts are rejected merely because? They told us this repeatedly, what did you leave for women of adornment? In their opinion—and this is what women know just now—... ..., and our women are like this, so the difference is that our women were convinced that this type of gold is forbidden so they left it, and the others were not convinced so they held onto it, and so on. It is not befitting that we look at the reality, because the reality has what is in accordance with the Shari'ah and what is contrary to it.
